Report: Von Miller wants to be highest-paid defender in NFL history

Von Miller

The Denver Broncos used the exclusive franchise tag on Von Miller Tuesday, but the star linebacker is in search of a much more lucrative deal.

Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com reports that Miller is seeking a long-term extension that would pay him between $65 and $70 million guaranteed. If he got that much, he would become the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history. The Broncos have until July 15 to work out a long-term deal with Miller, and he is all but certain to hold off until then — and possibly beyond — to sign the franchise tender.

The six-year, $114 million contract that Ndamukong Suh signed with the Miami Dolphins last offseason included $60 million guaranteed. That is currently the richest deal for a defensive player in NFL history, and the belief is that Miller is looking to eclipse that.

Miller, who will turn 27 in March, recorded 11 sacks last season and was named the MVP of the Super Bowl. He’s in a tremendous position of strength. You can read more about Miller’s road to the NFL here.
