Vontaze Burfict hit Robert Woods late on play Bills WR suffered knee injury

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Robert Woods left Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals with a knee sprain, and you probably won’t be surprised to see who was at the center of the play where the injury occurred.

Vontaze Burfict, of course.

Woods was gang-tackled by several Bengals players after catching a pass in the first quarter, and his leg got caught underneath him. While it appeared his leg had already bent awkwardly when Karlos Dansby hit him, it didn’t help that Burfict came diving in with a late shot on Woods.

Given the way his leg bent, there’s a good chance Woods would have hurt his knee with or without Burfict’s hit. But Burfict has totally lost the benefit of the doubt with his history of dirty play and extracurricular activity after the whistle blows.

Fortunately, Woods appears to have avoided a serious injury. Burfict is likely already facing a fine for flipping the double-bird to some fans (video here) during the Bengals’ loss Sunday. The NFL should at least review the tape of his hit on Woods while they’re at it.
