Wade Phillips to become Redskins defensive coordinator?

Wade-Phillips

Wade Phillips took a year off from football last year after spending three seasons as the defensive coordinator and a short time as the interim head coach with the Houston Texans. Rumor has it he could be making a comeback.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, there is a “strong sense” within the Washington Redskins organization that Phillips could become the team’s next defensive coordinator.

The Redskins parted ways with Jim Haslett last week following another abysmal season on the defensive side of the ball. Washington was tied for 29th in the NFL with 27.4 points per game allowed. They finished tied for 30th in 2013 with 29.9 points allowed per game.

While Phillips has had an up-and-down career as a head coach, he has been one of the better defensive minds in the game for over two decades. He would be a good hire for the Redskins and a definite upgrade over a guy who has drawn nothing but harsh criticism from guys who have played for him and against him.
