Will Smith’s BAC reportedly three times legal limit

Will Smith Saints

Will Smith’s blood alcohol level was reportedly three times the legal limit on the night he was shot to death.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune posted a story about Smith’s death Tuesday and says sources tell them the former Saints defensive lineman had a BAC of 0.24 at the time of his death.

Smith was tragically shot and killed in New Orleans in April. After a night out in New Orleans with friends that apparently included drinking, Smith rear-ended Cardell Hayes’ car. Hayes then followed Smith’s vehicle and hit him, leading to an incident between them outside the cars.

Smith ended up being shot multiple times, while his wife was shot once.

Hayes has not denied firing the gun, but his claim is that it was done in self-defense. The thinking is that if Smith was driving drunk, the defense might have its claim strengthened. Prosecutors may try to have this piece of information thrown out in the case.

A passenger in Hayes’ car has said he felt his life was saved thanks to Hayes shooting Smith.
