Woman trades wedding rings for Chiefs-Broncos tickets

Wedding-ringThe Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs are set to face off on Sunday night in what is the most important game to date for each team this season. Depending on how the next three weeks turn out, their meeting on Dec. 1 could be even more crucial. Tickets for the second meeting between the AFC West foes are currently selling for anywhere from $180 to $13,000, but one savvy fan was able to barter her way to Arrowhead Stadium.

Last week, a Missouri woman listed her wedding band and engagement ring on Craigslist and offered to trade the jewerly for tickets to the Broncos-Chiefs game on Dec. 1. On Thursday, she found a taker.

“It’s official! I have tickets to the game!!!” the woman wrote in an email to the Kansas City Star. “We met at a jewelry store so they could verify the ring was real and matched the appraisal I had provided him.

“The official trade was the ring for 4 tickets to the 12/1 Broncos game and 2 tickets to the 11/24 Chargers game.”

The seller said she dealt with plenty of criticism for offering to trade such sentimental items, but there was a slight catch. The rings were from a previous marriage and have no significance to her anymore. The gentleman who traded the tickets, 49-year-old Rusty Jones, said he and his girlfriend began talking about marriage roughly a month ago. Jones, a season ticket holder since 1993, saw it as perfect timing. He plans to propose to her during the game on Sunday.

But wait, there’s more. The woman who traded the rings is using the tickets as a birthday gift for her current husband. His birthday was Monday but the family was unable to celebrate because of a medical emergency.

“I think I’ll put the tickets in a card and get some balloons and dinner and celebrate his birthday tonight so he feels like he actually had one!” she said. “He was a little disappointed in how his day turned out so it’s time to make it up to him!”

I guess it really is true what they say — when the football Gods close a door they open a window.
