Tiger Woods withdraws from Safeway Open

Tiger-Woods

Tiger Woods was expected to make his highly-anticipated return to competitive golf at the Safeway Open this weekend, but his comeback is reportedly going to have to wait.

According to Tim Rosaforte of Golf Channel, Woods has withdrawn from the Safeway Open just three days after committing to the event.

The Safeway Open is the first official event of the PGA Tour schedule, and the Tour had previously advertised that Tiger would be making his return. Woods said last month that he was planning to start playing on the Tour again in October and mentioned three events he was eyeing.

We knew Tiger was nowhere close to a return back in May when he embarrassed himself in front of cameras with a series of bad shots. You can see videos of those swings here. It’s unclear if Woods’ decision to back out of the Safeway Open is related to some sort of setback with his surgically-repaired back.
