Bryce Harper won’t be rooting for Capitals in Stanley Cup Finals

Bryce Harper

Don’t get him wrong, Bryce Harper is happy that the Washington Capitals are going to the Stanley Cup Finals. That said, even though he plays there, he’s all-in on his hometown Vegas Golden Knights.

The Washington Nationals outfielder and Las Vegas native admitted that he wants to see the Golden Knights win it all, and he even hopes to be at Game 4 in D.C. wearing Vegas gear.

“I’m definitely happy for the Caps,” Harper told NHL Network, via Scott Allen of the Washington Post. “A lot of great players on that team as well. I love [Braden] Holtby. He’s one of my favorite players. Ovi of course, [John] Carlson. [T.J.] Oshie. What a great club they’ve got. But I was born and raised in Las Vegas, and I support the Golden Knights. It’s going to be a lot of fun, it’s going to be a great series, it’s going to be hard-fought. I’m just happy I’m not on the ice and not getting hit by Tom Wilson, because he hits pretty hard.

“We’re going to look to go to Game 4 in D.C. next Monday night. Hopefully we can get there and I’ll definitely be in the No. 81 [Jonathan] Marchessault jersey. I have an away white, so looking forward to that.”

It’s safe to say not everyone will be rooting along with Harper, but this isn’t some bandwagon-jumping thing — Harper started rooting for the Golden Knights as soon as they began playing. Doesn’t make things any less awkward for him, though.
