Joel Quenneville walks out of press conference (Video)

Joel Quenneville

Joel Quenneville was so annoyed after a loss to the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night that he walked out of his press conference following a question about a goal that was disallowed.

Quenneville’s Chicago Blackhawks scored what they thought would be a goal to give them a 1-0 lead in the first period. The Sharks challenged the goal because they thought goalie Martin Jones was interfered with, and the referees agreed and overturned the call.

Instead of being up 1-0, the game remained scoreless. San Jose eventually won 2-0 with the last goal coming on an empty net. Had the Blackhawks’ original goal been allowed, it’s plausible that the game would have ended in a 1-1 tie.

Quenneville was so agitated after the game that he walked out after giving an answer to a question about having the goal taken away.

“It’s gotten to a different level,” Quenneville said. “I don’t know the rules anymore, or something’s changed, because my understanding, played a lot of hockey, I don’t know. I think everybody has an interpretation of what’s a good goal and what’s a bad goal, but I can’t believe it.”

The frustrated Quenneville then threw his hands up in the air and walked out. His frustration was understandable as the call potentially cost Chicago a point in the standings.
