Bill Simmons apologizes for comments about ESPN employees

Bill Simmons

Bill Simmons took some more shots at ESPN in an interview that was published this week, and he made one remark that seemed particularly harsh.

While chatting with The Hollywood Reporter about the way things ended at the World Wide Leader, Simmons implied that ESPN has fired or moved on from all of its respectable employees.

“They’ve now gotten rid of everybody who is a little off the beaten path,” he said. “Ask yourself this: ‘Who would work there that you respect right now?'”

Simmons quickly realized how insulting that was to some of his former coworkers, and he issued a heartfelt apology on Instagram.

Simmons has unloaded on ESPN on several occasions since his divorce with the company. Surprisingly, he actually took some of the blame for the way things ended in his latest interview.

There are obviously plenty of people at ESPN who Simmons dislikes. There are many others he considers close friends. He clearly didn’t mean to offend the latter group.
