Sara Walsh laid off by ESPN upon returning from maternity leave

Sara Walsh is one of dozens of former ESPN employees who have lost their jobs over the past week, but the timing may have been a bit tougher for her than some of the others.

Walsh, who joined ESPN in 2010 and has hosted “SportsCenter” in addition to appearing on the popular show “Fantasy Football Now,” recently gave birth to twins. She was all set to return from maternity leave on Thursday when she received the bad news.

It’s never a good time to find out you lost your job, but Walsh must have experienced quite the range of emotions in just a few hours time.

While there are some unfortunate circumstances that are beyond the control of the higher-ups at ESPN, the network hasn’t exactly done itself any favors in the PR department. For evidence of that, look no further than the request they made to longtime NFL reporter Ed Werder after letting him go.

On the plus side, Walsh should get to spend more time with the new additions to her family.
