Anderson Silva reportedly failed second drug test related to UFC 183

Anderson Silva

Anderson Silva may be in even more trouble than initially believed.

Last week it was reported that Silva tested positive for two banned substances — both steroids — in a drug test on Jan. 9. That drug test was considered an out-of-competition screening ahead of his UFC 183 fight against Nick Diaz. Results from the test were not made public until three days after Silva won the fight by unanimous decision.

Now we are learning that Silva failed a second drug test.

MMA Junkie reports that Silva failed a second drug test related to the fight, though the date and nature of the failed test are not currently known. Silva did pass a drug test on Jan. 19, but it is believed that he had another test prior to his Jan. fight against Diaz.

Silva’s case is scheduled to be heard by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Feb. 17. He is likely facing a fine and suspension, and his $200,000 win bonus from the fight will likely be rescinded once the result of the fight is overturned from a victory to a no contest. The UFC has reportedly withheld Silva’s pay for the fight pending the outcome of his case.
