Daniel Cormier says Jon Jones is like a 16-year-old girl

Daniel Cormier Jon Jones

Daniel Cormier fired back at Jon Jones, who recently dismissed the heavyweight as a potential opponent.

Cormier initiated things when he again said he wanted a shot at Jones’ light heavyweight title. Jones was irked that he had to respond to Cormier.

“I hate answering questions about [Cormier],” Jones said last week at the UFC World Tour stop in Los Angeles, via MMA Junkie. “He’s just not relevant to me. There’s so many great fighters in the light-heavyweight division. He’s not even top five in his division. I’m not sure if he is.

“He has, like, 20,000 Twitter followers. He has short reach, bad cardio (and) he looked terrible in his last fight. It’s like, I’m not worried about him at all.”

Contrary to what Jones says, Cormier is not irrelevant. He is one of the top heavyweight contenders in the UFC. And he doesn’t like Jones dismissing him.

“When I hear his quote, it’s like a 16-year old girl,” Cormier said during Fuel TV’s UFC 163 post-fight show, per MMA TV. “Jon Jones, grow up bud, we’re going to fight regardless of how you feel. And when we do and I’m cutting the line and you might as well pull the guard because I’m taking you down.”

This reminds me a lot of the Chael Sonnen-Jon Jones situation. Jones was initially dismissive of Sonnen, because Chael clearly did not belong in the octagon with Jones. But Sonnen managed to talk his way into a fight with Jones and got destroyed. Maybe Cormier, who also called out Jones in January, is banging the drum loud enough to get Dana White to give him a fight. I know one thing: if Cormier faces Jones, he’ll give him a much, much tougher fight than Chael ever did.
