Georges St-Pierre has bulked up to 200 pounds

Georges-St-Pierre-Has-Plan-For-Retirement

If Georges St-Pierre ever wants to reclaim his welterweight championship belt, he’ll have to lose a whole bunch of weight.

In an interview with Chael Sonnen for Sonnen’s “You’re Welcome” podcast last week, St-Pierre said that he currently weighs around 200 pounds.

“I don’t know, I’m the biggest I’ve ever been,” he said, as transcribed by MMA Mania. “Due to my rehab, I was not able to do martial arts training. I did a lot of strength conditioning exercises mixed with a lot of gymnastics. So, I gained a lot of muscle mass. I’m the heaviest I’ve been in my life, I’m like 200 pounds. I used to walk around at 188 pounds and now I am 200 pounds.

“Still, at 200 pounds (if I come back) it will be at welterweight. The guys in my division walk around over 200 pounds. Even before when I used to compete, I was very small. I have a very large frame that makes me look bigger because I have a long reach. But I’m not that heavy, I’m a small guy for the elite of my weight class, actually.”

It’s not uncommon for fighters to shed a bunch of weight before a fight. St-Pierre used to fight at 170, which is the top of the welterweight class. He tore his ACL while training back in March.

St-Pierre reportedly met with UFC president Dana White and another UFC boss last month. It seems all but certain that he will return after he vacated his title a year ago and took a break from fighting amid some bizarre rumors.

Of course, some will speculate that GSP might keep on some of the extra weight so he can fight a certain UFC superstar.
