Jon Jones arrested for violating probation after drag racing incident

Jon Jones

UFC star Jon Jones was arrested on Tuesday for violating the terms of his probation.

TMZ reports that Jones turned himself in after a judge issued a warrant in the wake of the former light heavyweight champion’s drag racing citation in New Mexico.

Jones has vehemently denied that he was drag racing when an officer stopped him last Friday. He was issued five citations in total. A video showed Jones in a heated argument with the officer after he insisted he merely revved his engine at a red light to acknowledge a fan. Jones swore at the officer and called him a “pig.” You can see the video here.

Jones was sentenced to probation last September after he reached a plea agreement in his hit-and-run case. The agreement allowed Jones to avoid jail time in exchange for extensive community service, and the terms also stated that he could not get into trouble with the law.

In a statement Tuesday, the agency that represents Jones expressed confidence that the 28-year-old will be cleared.

“Jon and his team are taking this very seriously and we will let the legal process play out,” EAG Sports said. “We are confident he will be released once he has an opportunity to explain to the judge the facts in this case.”

Jones had better hope that is the case. Otherwise, he could be suspended from the UFC once again.
