Jon Jones bought a pet African serval

It must be exotic pet week or something in the world of professional sports, because Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett isn’t the only pro athlete who has a surprising new member of his family. Dockett bought a pet tiger earlier this week, and UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon “Bones” Jones followed suit by getting a wild cat of his own on Friday.

“I picked up a African Serval today!!” Jones wrote on Twitter along with the photo you see above. “It’s a lot of cat!! really excited for the challenge.”

Servals range from about 20 to 40 pounds, so Jones’ new pal should be easier to handle than Dockett’s. That being said, I’ve gathered from the serval Wikipedia page that they are still pretty fierce hunters and are nocturnal. That doesn’t sound like pet behavior to me, but someone who can win a fight with a broken toe is probably capable of handling it.
