Christy Mack: I didn’t look in the mirror for weeks after beating

Christy Mack

Christy Mack is still recovering from the injuries she suffered as a result of a beating from her ex-boyfriend War Machine last August, and she recently opened up to espnW about what she is facing.

As described in an article by Jane McManus, Mack is getting used to a new face she doesn’t fully recognize. This is the result of suffering 18 broken bones at the hands of War Machine, including breaking her nose and several teeth, and an injury to her eye.

From McManus’ description of Mack:

Her bright eyes used to be slightly more expressive. But the way her muscles healed after the attack, she now needs glasses. “It’s OK,” she says. “They’re cute.”

Her mouth has a different shape after so many teeth were broken. She has veneers, but they are uneven, a stopgap measure so she can eat normally. She won’t smile for photos until she gets them fixed again.

“I didn’t look in the mirror for weeks,” Mack says.

[…]

“Just feeling my face, I knew it wasn’t right,” she says. “So when I’d look in the mirror, it’s not me — that person wasn’t me. It’s so hard to go every day without being you anymore.”

Mack shaved her head bald and now wears wigs. This is because War Machine essentially scalped her by cutting off her hair with a knife.

In addition to her new face, hair and outlook, Mack is no longer doing adult videos. She has also moved to a new home. One other thing she plans to change is covering up a tattoo on her back that says, “Property of War Machine.” We’re surprised she hasn’t already done that, but she’s needed a lot of time to recover before she could self-inflict pain in the form of a tattoo.

Mack has become an activist against domestic violence and is awaiting War Machine’s impending trial, which is set for September. There is one thing that is still bothering her, and that is that War Machine still has not taken full responsibility for his actions. That’s probably because he disputes her side of the story, as he expressed in this jail letter.
