Pele tweets he is at Opening Ceremony in ‘energy and thought’
When the opening ceremony for the Rio Olympics got underway, it did so without one of world’s more recognizable athletes in attendance. However, he wanted everyone to know he was there in spirit.
Brazilian soccer legend Pele was invited to light the Olympic torch, but was forced to miss the ceremony due to health concerns. On Friday evening, Pele tweeted that he was at the Maracanã Stadium stadium in “energy and thought.”
I am there with you tonight with energy and thought at Maracanã Stadium. God bless you all! #olympics #openingceremony

Early in the ceremony, Gisele Bundchen, another of the country’s most famous figures, walked out to the famous song “The Girl from Ipanema.” With the games being in Brazil, Pele’s absence was certainly noticeable as he is revered in his home nation. We at LBS wish him a speedy recovery.
