NFL Picks Week 1 – Doc and Del

Hopefully you’ve already joined the LBS Challenge picks pool to see if you can predict games better than staff experts Doc Brown and Del. If not, you still have until Sunday before you really miss out on points. As far as analysis goes, Del gave his predictions for the season early Thursday. He likes the Eagles over the Chargers in the Super Bowl. Doc Brown is going with the reverse — Chargers over Eagles. You can read our analysis of teams at those links. As far as picks for week one go, feast your eyes and don’t forget to read our analysis after the chart.

NFL PICKS WEEK 1
(ATS = Against the Spread, SU = Straight Up)

As you can see, Doc and Del agree on a lot of games Week 1 including two of their top three.  As you saw in our season predictions, neither Doc nor Del think very highly of the Bears this season and both are expecting a good run from the Falcons.  Sure the Falcons are a dome team, but we aren’t talking about the middle of winter and nasty Chicago weather.  The spread on this game would be more appropriate for November or December.  The Falcons are the better team and should cover a three-point spread with relative ease.

Moving on to Jacksonville, Doc and Del both like the Titans as two-point underdogs.  With Luke McCown recently thrust into the starting role for the Jags after the abrupt release of David Garrard, the Jaguars offense will struggle.  Chris Johnson recently signed a fat contract and should be feeling rested heading into the first game.  The Titans were the better team a week ago, and they’re certainly the better team now that McCown is under center.

Rounding out the top three are two teams Doc and Del agree will cover the spread but didn’t agree on as top-3 candidates.  Del likes the Cardinals to come out and put up a ton of points at home against the Panthers, who should struggle to move the ball with a weak passing game.  Doc is confident that second year signal-caller Colt McCoy will get the best of rookie Andy Dalton and the Browns will handle the Bengals with ease.

Be sure to venture over to Play Action Picks, where our friend Sam will be listing his NFL picks and competing with the LBS experts for bragging rights all season long.
