David Villa said farewell to Spain with nifty back-heel goal (GIF)
David Villa played in the final World Cup game of his career on Monday afternoon, and the Spanish striker went out in style. Villa, who is Spain’s all-time top international goal scorer, netted an impressive back-heel goal against Australia.
Villa, 32, was one of the most important pieces of Spain’s 2010 team that took home the World Cup trophy. He scored five goals in the tournament, and his nifty goal on Monday was the ninth of his World Cup career. Villa kissed the shield on his jersey after scoring and was overcome with emotion on the bench after being removed from the game.

After losing their first two games, the defending World Cup champions were essentially eliminated from the 2014 tournament. I’m sure Villa was happy to score for his fans, but he would have liked going out on a better note.
