Mexico coach bans sex and alcohol during World Cup

No-sexThere are going to be a lot of disappointed wives and girlfriends during the 2014 World Cup. Earlier this week, Mexico coach Miguel Herrera became the latest coach to announce that he will forbid his players from having sex during the World Cup. He also told reporters he’s banning drinking.

“If a player can not endure a month or 20 days without having intercourse, then you are not prepared to be a professional,” Herrera told Mexican newspaper Reforma, via Yahoo! News. “Let’s play a World Cup, we’re not going to a party.”

I can understand not wanting your players to drink and party, but the sex ban always seems a bit excessive to me. Last month, Brazil manager Luiz Felipe Scolari announced that he will allow his players to have sex as long as they don’t try to do anything too freaky. In other words, Scolari doesn’t want to hear about any bedroom acrobatics.

In reality, there’s no way coaches can enforce these rules on grown men. Believe it or not, we have heard about professional soccer players potentially injuring themselves by having too much sex. Still, you would think the benefits outweigh the risks. Who wants a bunch of grumpy dudes on their team?
