Report: Sepp Blatter reconsidering decision to step down

Sepp-Blatter

Sepp Blatter is reportedly reconsidering the decision he made recently to step down as president of FIFA.

According to the Daily Mail, Swiss newspaper Schweiz am Sonntag cited an anonymous source close to Blatter over the weekend who said Blatter may change his mind and decide to remain in his current position. Blatter has apparently received “messages of support” from African and Asian soccer associations.

Blatter, who was reelected last month despite several FIFA officials being arrested on corruption charges, announced on June 2 that he is stepping down as president of FIFA. One report indicated that Blatter’s decision may have had something to do with the fact that he was being investigated by the FBI.

While Blatter has not been named in any of the legal filings, his top officials have found themselves on the receiving end of some disturbing accusations. You can read about some of them here.

Just a few days ago, it looked like Blatter was moving to have his replacement elected sooner rather than later.

The Swiss report notes that Blatter was honored by Asian and African soccer officials asking him to reconsider his decision. Somehow, we knew this wouldn’t be as simple as it seemed.
