OK, so I’m not too happy about going 2-4 to start the season. Last week we got screwed by the bad call in the Chargers/Broncos game otherwise we would have been sitting in a decent spot at .500. Now, we’ll need a 3-0 week to surge back to life. Having seen the teams play two weeks now, I think I have a much better feel for what these squads bring to the table. On with the picks.

Browns +2 @ Ravens – This is the second week in a row I like the Browns. Last week they were lucky the weather kept the Steelers from covering the spread, otherwise they would have been toast. This week, they’re playing a week Ravens team that should not be favored except for the fact that they had their bye week switched around, giving them an extra week to prepare. I still don’t think 7 more days will turn Joe Flacco into Joe Namath. Put the Browns in better weather and their passing game will click. They should win this one outright.

Falcons -5.5 vs. Chiefs – Let’s use some geometry here: We saw what the Falcons ground game did to the Lions in Week 1. We saw what the Raiders ground game did to the Chiefs in Week 2. By the transitive property of NFL matchups, the Falcons will ram the ball down the Chiefs’ throats. (It also doesn’t hurt that the Chiefs have Tyler Pigpen making his first career start at QB, either).

Redskins -3 vs. Cardinals – The Cards may be 2-0, but they’ve gotten wins against some weaklings. I’d like to see them go into FedEx Field against a real opponent before I start believing that “This is the year!” The Skins still haven’t settled into Zorn’s offense just yet, but their defense is looking strong. Homefield advantage should be a big difference-maker here.
