Ron Artest, Andrew Bynum Rip Amare Stoudemire After He Calls Pau Gasol Soft

On Saturday, Knicks big man Amare Stoudemire called Lakers forward Pau Gasol soft. He was at the Foot Locker House of Hoops and was asked what it was like going up against Pau Gasol when he got off the blast. Here’s the video via Slam Online:

When word got back to Lakers center Andrew Bynum, he immediately questioned Amare’s place to call Gasol soft, writing on twitter, “The NBA is a weird place! How can a man that plays 0 defense call a 2 time champion soft?”

But the best response of all came from Ron Artest, no surprise given his level of craziness. According to Beto Duran, Artest said before the Lakers’ loss to the Jazz Tuesday night “Amare butt naked in magazines and Pau’s soft?” That of course was a reference to Amare’s participation in a partially nude spread in a magazine. And if that wasn’t enough, perhaps making an Amare sailor outfit reference would have worked just as well.

The NBA, where hypocritical happens.

Dwight Howard Drops a ‘Pause’ When Asked About Andrew Bynum (Video)

Those of you who are unfamiliar with the slang definition of the word “pause” may be more familiar with the term “no homo.”  Both essentially mean the same thing and are used when making a reference that could be construed as sexual in nature.  The latter is used more in a hip hop setting while the former is a bit more common in everyday conversation and in the media.

Dwight Howard, who is no stranger to goofing off during interviews, made the reference when talking about Andrew Bynum after the Magic’s loss to the Lakers on Monday night.  It reminded us a lot of Gus Johnson’s “pause” when Spike like said he “likes Dick” a few years ago, which pretty much introduced LBS to the term.  Check out the Dwight Howard “pause” video, courtesy of Cosby Sweaters.

Bynum Will Miss Start of Training Camp Because He Couldn’t Miss World Cup

Surprise, surprise.  Lakers center Andrew Bynum has made a poor decision regarding an injury.  The same Bynum who was partying at the Playboy Mansion with Playmates on his shoulders while rehabbing his knee last year is going to miss the start of Lakers training camp.  Why?  Because he didn’t want to be uncomfortable watching the World Cup in South Africa and vacationing in Europe, of course.

Kevin Ding of the Orange County Register reports, via Pro Basketball Talk, that Bynum opted to push back the date of his off-season knee surgery after the Lakers won the NBA Finals.  Just like he pushed it back so he could play in the playoffs, he pushed it back again so he could play on vacation.

Bynum put off having off-season surgery on his right knee so he could play – and we’re not talking about playing basketball. He could’ve repaired the knee immediately after last season, but he postponed it to travel – to see the soccer World Cup in South Africa and then vacation in Europe, as he had the previous summer.

Bynum didn’t want to be on crutches, which would’ve diminished all that fun stuff or required rescheduling. He even had the knee drained, just as he did repeatedly with much ado in the playoffs to keep playing, so he could keep pivoting around reasonably well as a sightseer.

Sounds like a player who finally has his priorities in line, doesn’t it?  The fact that this is a recurring theme for the big man has to be a concern for the Lakers.  You would think that a player with an elaborate injury history like Bynum’s — at such a young age — would take surgeries and rehab a bit more seriously.  Maybe that’s just the effect two championship rings can have on a 22-year-old.

Rihanna’s Looking for a Baller … Is it Andrew Bynum or Baron Davis?

Given all the off-court issues Andrew Bynum’s had lately, I’m not so sure that dating a celeb is something he should be doing right now. Much less a celeb who’s involved in a shaky breakup from Chris Brown amidst a potential physical assault incident. Regardless, multiple reports say the Lakers’ center was seen getting cozy with singer Rihanna last week. Bynum’s playing it the right way, not divulging any information to the paparazzi. But if Bynum really is getting it on with Rihanna, looks like he might have some competition.

Here’s lesson one in how to twist a story: Rihanna celebrating Baron’s birthday now means the two might have a relationship. According to the NY Daily News, “Rihanna is back in action! The sexy songbird was decked out in ’80s club gear at L.A. hot spot myhouse, where she helped L.A. Clippers star Baron Davis’ celebrate his 30th birthday — and danced, sipped Grey Goose and flirted with Davis and his teammates all night.” So that does say the two were flirting, right? I wonder what Teri Hatcher has to say about that. To use Ben Maller’s line, the good part about Baron for Rihanna is that the Clippers don’t beat anyone. Zing!

Andrew Bynum’s Rehabbing His Knee at the Playboy Mansion

That Andrew Bynum isn’t exactly the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to his injury rehab methods. About this time last year, the Laker center was spotted at a UCLA frat party while he was also recovering from a knee injury. For his 21st birthday, he pulled a Pacman Jones/Floyd Mayweather and made it rain at Ivar in Hollywood. This time around, the young center also out with a knee injury, was spotted at the Playboy Mansion for a party, appeared to be doing fine, and even tried out the hula-hoops:

Wearing a green smoking jacket and slippers, Bynum … partied like a rock star near the infamous grotto.

He picked up Playmate Nicole Narain and placed her on his shoulders and got somebody to take a picture with his digital camera.

He hopped over a velvet rope near the DJ booth so he could take a picture with Narain and other Playmates who ended up sitting on his lap.

Between Bynum’s past rehab methods, Kwame Brown’s lesbian bar rehab, Vlad Radmonovic’s snowboard, and Shaq’s healing on company time line, it seems like everyone’s trying to milk the Lakers. Typically you would just chalk all this stuff up to the errors of a young kid — which Bynum is — but the difference is he’s a professional now, not a college player, so he has to be smarter and more responsible than that. If I’m out with an injury, I’m not trying to rub it in for my franchise by partying at the Playboy Mansion. That just shows a lack of respect. Thanks to my man JS for hooking LBS up with the story!
