Ronda Rousey takes another shot at Arianny Celeste

Ronda RouseyIn between complaining about the media sensationalizing some of her recent comments, Ronda Rousey took a shot at UFC ring girl Arianny Celeste, ensuring that she would once again make some headlines for her actions.

The tension between Rousey and Celeste began in 2012 when Rousey joked that it would have been nice to rank higher than the Octagon girl in Maxim’s Hot 100. She also took a general shot at all ring girls in another interview that year by saying they don’t have talent.

In a recent interview with MMA Junkie Radio, Celeste responded and said she didn’t like the way Rousey carries herself.

While meeting with the media prior to UFC 171 on Saturday, Rousey brought up Celeste’s comments.

“Like that whole Arianny thing. Those comments from the Maxim thing, that was from like 12 months ago. Did it just take her a year to come up with a comeback? Like why is this coming up now?” Rousey said.

Rousey then was asked how she felt about Celeste’s comments, and she decided to mock the Octagon girl’s intelligence.

“They made grammatical sense, which is good for her,” Rousey said, then laughed.

Rousey clearly just cannot help herself. And she wonders why she remains in the headlines or is a central figure for some of this stuff?

And for the record, the reason why Celeste responded a year later was because it came up during an interview. Rousey should know just as well as anyone that many times headlines are made when people are asked questions, not because they volunteer stuff.

Arianny Celeste on Ronda Rousey: I don’t like the way she carries herself

Arianny-CelesteRonda Rousey is incredibly outspoken. Her undefeated record in the octagon and outgoing personality are the main reasons she is such a marketing machine. The latter, however, is why famous UFC ring girl Arianny Celeste is not Rousey’s biggest fan.

Before Rousey defeated Sara McMann on Saturday, Celeste told MMA Junkie Radio that she does not view Ronda as a positive role model for women.

“I don’t really like the way she carries herself,” Celeste said. “I don’t think she’s a good role model for women. I think that women should empower each other and give each other a little pat on the back.

“I’ve personally been talked about by her, and I don’t even know her. I’ve met her twice. She said a couple things in her Maxim interview. A lot of people pointed it out to me, but I didn’t really acknowledge it. … She’s paving the way for women’s MMA, and I’ve made being a UFC Octagon Girl into a career. She should definitely recognize that and be nice.”

The Maxim interview Celeste referred to took place in August 2012, when Rousey joked that it would have been fun to rank higher on Maxim’s Hot 100 list than Celeste.

“It would have been really funny if I’d beaten [UFC Octagon Girl] Arianny Celeste, because that would be like a triathlete coming along and beating the runners in a marathon,” Rousey said at the time. “Like, ‘Ha-ha, it’s your job to show your titties—I do that better than you!’ Maybe next year. She’s only getting older, and I’m reaching my prime.”

As Bloody Elbow pointed out, Rousey also took a shot at ring girls in general during a separate 2012 interview with Sherdog.

“There’s a reason why the ring girls aren’t asked to star in movies, and it’s because they’re pretty but talentless,” Rousey said.

That’s probably reason enough for Celeste to dislike Rousey, and I’m sure Rousey doesn’t care. After all, this is a woman who openly discusses her sex life on talk shows. She doesn’t seem to be concerned with what people think of her.

Arianny Celeste not charged for incident with boyfriend Praveen Chandra

UFC Octagon Girl Arianny Celeste received a rash of bad publicity late in May after she and her boyfriend, Praveen Chandra, were arrested on domestic violence charges. Luckily for the two, the charges reportedly have been dropped.

“After our review of the case, we found that there was insufficient evidence to move forward,” an assistant to the Las Vegas district attorney told MMA Junkie.

There seemed to be plenty of evidence to move forward with charges based on what we read, but I’m guessing a higher force interceded. Do you really think the city of Las Vegas would press charges against a UFC darling given how important the UFC is to the city? This is the same Sin City where a judge delayed Floyd Mayweather’s jail sentence so he could fight and bring in the dough for the town.

Money quite obviously talked in this one.

Arianny Celeste says she kicked boyfriend Praveen Chandra in self-defense

UFC Octagon girl Arianny Celeste reportedly admits she kicked boyfriend Praveen Chandra in the face during their fight last weekend that resulted in the two being arrested for domestic violence, but she says she was acting in self-defense.

Celeste, whose real name is Arianny Lopez, reportedly told Hollyscoop “I was defending myself after he choked me twice.”

Additionally, Hollyscoop suggests Chandra has a history of rowdy behavior with Celeste.

A source who was on set during a recent Deadmau5 music video shoot starring the UFC Octagon Girl tells Hollyscoop that Praveen showed up to the set intoxicated and went off on a jealous rage because he didn’t want her appearing in the video.

If Celeste didn’t already have the public’s support because of her popularity, reading this report should certainly gain their favor. I imagine Chandra probably is claiming he was acting in self-defense as well.

Arianny Celeste allegedly kicked boyfriend Praveen Chandra in face

UFC Octagon girl Arianny Celeste was arrested early Saturday morning in Las Vegas on domestic violence charges and was released after posting bond. The UFC announced its support of Celeste despite details from the arrest not being available, but now we know what happened.

The arrest report was released on Tuesday and the Las Vegas Sun says the incident between Celeste, 26, and her boyfriend, Praveen Chandra, 34, began in a limousine. Chandra told police that Celeste, whose real name is Arianny Lopez, kicked him in the nose over text messages he supposedly sent to other women.

The argument reportedly escalated at their hotel room at the Wynn. Chandra accused Lopez of throwing two vases at him. Lopez told police her boyfriend choked her and grabbed her right arm.

The two reportedly have been dating for months, which is probably the saddest news of all to most UFC fans. As far as what happened between the two, that depends on whom you believe. I’m guessing there’s a bit of truth to both of their sides. And how crazy is it that Chandra may have been texting other women despite dating a girl who has posed for Playboy? Celeste really isn’t enough for him?

Arianny Celeste arrested for domestic violence; UFC says it still supports her

Massively popular UFC ring girl Arianny Celeste was arrested and booked on domestic violence charges early Saturday morning in Las Vegas.

The 26-year-old posted her $3,000 bond and was released around 7 p.m., after Saturday’s UFC 146 had started at the MGM Grand. She eventually made it to the event and was met with a chorus of cheers from the crowd.

Earlier in the day, UFC president Dana White pledged that the MMA brand will continue to lend its support behind Celeste.

“Arianny is our baby,” White said in a statement. “She has been with us for over five years. She is a good girl and an amazing ambassador for the UFC. I don’t know all the details of what happened but we have her back and support her 100 percent.”

It’s interesting UFC would jump so quickly to such a position when details surrounding her arrest were still vague, especially after the PR hit the company took recently with Jon “Bones” Jones’ DUI. But looking at Arianny and given that UFC’s main demographic is hormone-charged, red-blooded 18-to-35-year-old males, we can understand why.

Chael Sonnen Mocks Arianny Celeste’s IQ

UFC fighter Chael Sonnen easily has one of the wackiest personalities in MMA. He doesn’t hold back when challenging opposing fighters, and he gets completely goofy in interviews like this one with TSN Canada. It’s that type of behavior that helped him become the host of the World MMA Awards that will air Wednesday.

In an interview with Las Vegas Weekly published Friday, Sonnen answered several questions regarding the awards show. This is the one that caused the fireworks:
