Drew Yeargin Lays Monster Hit on Ryan Bouldin During NAIA Game (Video)

Tis football season indeed — at all levels. While the NFL continues to protect its players from devastating hits at all costs, the big hits continue to pile up in other leagues across North America. Earlier this week, we showed you a sack from the CFL that is one of the best you’ll ever come across. As Dr. Saturday showed us on Friday, the NAIA has decided to get in on the act. Check out this hit that Drew Yeargin from the University of Cumberlands (Ky.) put on running back Ryan Bouldin from Virginia-Wise last weekend:

As Dr. Saturday mentioned, the hit was clean. There’s nothing wrong with a solid football play where you lead with your shoulder. The sad part about it is that hit would have almost certainly drawn a flag in the NFL. Unfortunate as it may be, you can now be flagged for simply hitting someone too hard in the No Fun League.

When it comes to big hits in football, it doesn’t get better than this one. This CFL quarterback learned the hard way that buckling one’s chin strap is probably a good idea:

The headline from that hit is what you would expect: Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Buck Pierce is banged up and may not play Sunday. Dude should just be happy if he can remember his address and how to wipe his butt after taking that hit. Brutal.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with sub-professional baseball teams using gimmicks to sell tickets. If giving away a hilarious pair of boxer shorts on the night of an equally hysterical competition will help fill the stands we’re all for it. If you have to shoot a guy out of a cannon to create a buzz then so be it. However, an annoying short man dressed as a monkey dancing around crosses the line. That’s why I really have no problem with the follow clip. Check out the video of the Nashua Silver Knights’ “monkey boy” getting laid out, courtesy of YouTube user Humbera:

Maybe the hit was a little excessive, but you have to know to keep your head on a swivel if you’re going to do something that obnoxious. If you can’t stand the heat stay out of the kitchen. Mess with the bull get the horns. Add any other “he asked for it” cliches you want, but I don’t feel sorry for this character no matter how you look at it.

Much like Phillies fans, we are all aware of how crazy Boston Red Sox fans can be. Some are crazy in a fun way while others are crazy in an obnoxious way. Then there are those who are just plain stupid. Since we all love to give security guards crap for using excessive force (see Cal security guard who slapped a choke hold on a fan), it would be unfair to snub them out of a well-deserved pat on the back. That is exactly what this Fenway Park security guard — who we call Ray Lewis for the purpose of this discussion — deserves for the hit he put on a Red Sox fan Monday night. That hit by Ray Lewis could be even better than the one that Fresno State staffer put on a shirtless maniac in the Fall. Note to the fan: if you’re going to run onto the field, put a little hop in your step. The idea is to see how long you can go without getting caught, not to tip-toe around like you’re trying to win a Miss America pageant. Wake up.

Jacory Harris Jacked Up By Virginia’s John-Kevin Dolce (Video)

A few weeks ago, Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck enlightened us by demonstrating how a quarterback delivers a thunderous hit after a turnover. On Saturday, Miami quarterback Jacory Harris reminded us that that’s usually not the way it goes. The guy throwing the ball is usually taking the beating, not dishing it out. Harris left Miami’s game against Virginia on Saturday and didn’t return after being lit up by Virginia defensive tackle John-Kevin Dolce. The best part about the hit is that it was hard, but clean. That’s almost impossible to pull off with all the rules that protect quarterbacks these days, so defensive players should take some notes from Dolce on how to throw a big hit on the quarterback and not draw a flag. Andrew Luck Delivers the Hit of the Year on Shareece Wright (Video)

Stanford knocked off USC 37-35 on Saturday night in an extremely close game. Neither team seemed to be able to stop the other and they each rolled up nearly 500 yards of offense. Both quarterbacks were stellar, throwing for three touchdowns and no picks. The only turnovers were fumbles, and two of them occurred on the same play.

Sophomore Andrew Luck is considered one of the best quarterbacks in the country. He can throw, he can run, and now we also know he can hit. USC cornerback Shareece Wright recovered a fumble by Stepfan Taylor late in the second quarter, but Luck absolutely leveled him. Check out this Andrew Luck hit video to see how tough the kid is:

Usually it’s the quarterbacks getting hit like that on turnovers. For Stanford, it’s Luck who’s doing the damage. Man, he hit Wright so hard I felt it.

Is This a Legal Hit in the NFL?

We know the CFL has fans who can drink and no fair catch rule, but I didn’t know they had guys who could lay the lumber like this. The first thing I thought to myself when I saw the video of Chris Szarka getting jacked up in the CFL Bango Bowl was, “Would that hit fly in the NFL?” With all the rules the NFL has come up with now, I’d be willing to guarantee the defensive player would get flagged for unnecessary roughness on this play. Looks like he “launches himself at the receiver” to use NFL official terminology. Check out the video from SI Hot Clicks:

Ndamukong Suh Rips Jake Delhomme’s Head Off

If you missed this play over the weekend then you have to see it. With the memory of Ndamukong Suh’s monstrous Big 12 Championship game against Texas where he had four and a half sacks and tossed Colt McCoy around rag doll-style fresh in our minds, Suh had his first “I am here to dominate” moment in the NFL. Playing in Detroit’s third preseason game Saturday, Suh got a hold of Browns quarterback Jake Delhomme and spiked him to the ground like a volleyball. Donkey Kong got a personal foul flag on the play, but boy, was it worth it. Check out this must-see video of Ndamukong Suh on Jake Delhomme:

Lions fans are hoping there’s plenty more of that to come. I can’t even remember the last player to enter the league with as much animosity towards quarterbacks. I’m guessing Suh will be on Roger Goodell’s most wanted list by the end of the year if he keeps up this act. I hope he does.

Today’s Humor: College Football Recruit Destroys an Emo Kid

Sammy Watkins is a wide receiver who is being heavily recruited by some of the top SEC schools as well as a few top programs from other conferences. My guess is that when a South Fort Myers high school student asked him to appear in a video he was doing for a school project, he didn’t know he would literally come close to losing his own head over it. I don’t really understand the point of this video or what the project could have entailed — and the emo kid that’s the “star” of it is pretty obnoxious — but the hit Watkins puts on the kid is worth watching. Check out the video of college football recruit Sammy Watkins laying out an emo kid, courtesy of Sports by Brooks. Fast forward to 1:35 for the good stuff:

There’s no possible way that’s how the kid scripted this to go. All of the other hits and beatings he takes through the first 1:30 of the video are harmless, and then Watkins comes along and just absolutely levels him. If he knew it was coming, there’s no question he would’ve been wearing a helmet. Some of the schools that are recruiting the wide receiver must be excited about his versatility after seeing this clip. Then again, I could probably put nearly as big a hit on that nerd if I set my mind to it. Although not during game action, this is definitely worth of being added to our collection of big hits.

That’s what happens when you put an aggressive, rookie linebacker who was a 7th round pick desperate to make the team, on special teams. And that’s what happens when he gets a clear path to a much smaller, rookie returner. Ouch. Talk about living a car crash, yeesh. Maybe they should have stuck Follett on defense to try and stop Steven Jackson considering nobody else on the Lions was able to. Oh and by the way, there might be a quarterback controversy brewing in St. Louis.
