Brittney Griner: Bacon is my good luck charm

Brittney Griner related to nearly every guy possible by admitting she loves bacon. The Baylor All-American center said during an interview that the crispy breakfast meat is her basketball good luck charm.

“My good luck charm? Probably my bacon that I eat,” Griner said during an interview on ESPN’s SportsCenter. “I love bacon. I have to have it every day, every pregame meal and breakfast I probably have like a whole plate,” she said with a smile.

“I have some bacon socks. I haven’t shown them to RGIII yet, but I’m going to have to show him I’ve got some socks, too,” she added.

In case you’re wondering about the reference to Robert Griffin III, the former Baylor quarterback has become known for wearing cartoon socks. We could tell from the time she ate a fan’s popcorn pregame that Griner was big on snacks, but we had no idea she loved bacon that much.

Brittney Griner dunks in NCAA tournament game for second time (Video)

Brittney Griner dunked in an NCAA tournament game for the second time in a week when she threw down a two-handed slam in the second half of Baylor’s win over Georgia Tech Saturday. The Lady Bears won the game 83-68 to advance to the Elite Eight.

Griner, who had 35 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks in the game, energized her teammates with the dunk.

“Even though she dunks in warm-ups all the time, in the game it’s just something that automatically just gets us fired up and really excited,” Baylor’s Odyssey Sims said. “I think we get more excited for her than she does for herself.”

Griner also dunked in a win over Florida Tuesday. Baylor coach Kim Mulkey said Tuesday she likes it when Griner dunks because of it’s uplifting and intimidating effects. Clearly Griner was listening and took advantage when she had an opportunity. Her two dunks in the tourney tie Candace Parker’s record. Oh yeah, and did we mention that Griner is 6’8″? Now that is intimidating.

Baylor center Brittney Griner became just the second woman to dunk in an NCAA tournament game when she threw down on Florida Tuesday night. The dunk was Griner’s first of the season and sixth for her career, putting her one behind Candace Parker’s career record. Parker is the only other woman to dunk in an NCAA tournament game — something she accomplished twice against Army in 2006.

Griner finished with 25 points and nine rebounds in Baylor’s 76-57 second-round win over Florida. The Bears are the top seed in the Des Moines region of the tournament and have advanced to the Sweet 16.

Life is good when you’re Brittney Griner and the star of the top team in the country. Things are so easy her she was able to snack on a fan’s popcorn before her team’s game against 11th-ranked Texas A&M. Baylor won 69-62 to improve to 30-0 and Griner had 25 and 8. I had no idea she and T.O. were related.
