Caroline Wozniacki denies engagement rumor after Twitter prank

Caroline Wozniacki and Rory McIlroy are not engaged, despite what one prankster led many to believe.

Sascha Bajin, who is the hitting partner for Serena Williams and frequently interacts with Wozniacki over Twitter, decided to play a little joke on Monday.

USA Today’s Chris Chase says journalists were scrambling to confirm the rumor after Bajin’s original tweet. As seen in the Twitter reply above, Wozniacki killed the rumor with her response a few hours later.

The two continued to banter over Twitter, and even Victoria Azarenka chimed in:

Caroline Wozniacki interrupts Rory McIlroy’s press conference to ask if she is getting a nice Christmas gift

Rory McIlroy got off to a strong start with six birdies in the first round at the DP World Tour Championship on Thursday, but Caroline Wozniacki had no interest in listening to her boyfriend talk about that. According to the Golf Channel, Wozniacki snatched a microphone from a reporter during McIlroy’s press conference on Thursday to ask a personal question.

“If you win this week am I going to get a really nice Christmas present?” Woz asked.

“Have you not already got a lot of nice presents?” McIlroy responded.

Rory then assured his lady that she’s going to have a memorable Christmas regardless of the outcome of this weekend’s tournament.

“I have been looking, I have been looking,” McIlroy said. “But it won’t take winning this week to buy you a nice present – I’ll get you a nice present anyway.”

Needless to say, the world’s No. 1 golfer probably isn’t too concerned about hitting up Black Friday deals or hopping on his computer for Cyber Monday. He made over $13 million in PGA and European Tour tournaments alone this year, let alone the millions he rakes in from endorsements.

As much of a Rory fan as I am, I still miss Holly Sweeney dearly. Interrupting each other’s press conferences to talk about Christmas is simply the latest in a string of obnoxious things the couple has done like exchange corny gifts and take cheesy pictures together. But when you’re No. 1 in the world, you can pretty much get away with anything you want.

Graeme McDowell: Traveling to see Caroline Wozniacki is fatiguing Rory McIlroy

Both Caroline Wozniacki and Rory McIlroy have struggled in recent months, and Northern Irish golfer Graeme McDowell says all the traveling McIlroy is doing to be with his tennis-playing girlfriend is part of the reason for his issues.

“There’s no doubt, all the travelling is wearing him down a little bit and we are seeing a little bit of fatigue,” McDowell said on the Golf Channel Thursday as he co-hosted the Morning Drive show, according to Irish Golf Daily.

“Yes, his performance in the big events this year have not be really up to his standard,” McDowell said. “But he is going through a little bit of a voyage of discovery right now – for all the right reasons.”

Though McDowell was critical of McIlroy, he still believes in his countryman.

“But he’s a fit kid and he’s a young kid and he has all the talent in the world. It is only a matter of time [before he comes back].

“He’s very happy with his personal life and Caroline is a great girl. He will be okay,” McDowell believes.

We had a feeling things were headed for the worst when the two began calling themselves “Wozzilroy,” and when they took this obnoxious picture. That was all last year. Since then, McIlroy has struggled mightily as has Wozniacki, though she says their relationship is not to blame.

McDowell says McIlroy is the one doing most of the traveling to meet Caroline because he is one person whereas she has a big entourage. In other words, it’s easier for him to go where she is. So far it seems to be coming at the cost of his success, but like McDowell says, it’s not a bad problem to have. Rory is young enough where he can figure out how to balance his life. At any rate, we still believe he made a mistake by leaving the lovely Holly Sweeney.

Caroline Wozniacki says relationship with Rory McIlroy has nothing to do with their recent struggles

Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki have been struggling mightily over the past couple of months. The fact that they happen to be dating could be a reason for their poor performances or simply a coincidence. At one point, the young golfer and young tennis star were at the top of the world in their respective sports. Now, McIlroy can’t seem to make a tournament cut and Wozniacki has slipped to No. 7 in the world rankings. However, Wozniacki says her relationship with McIlroy has done nothing but help her.

“For me, it’s important to have a life off court,” she said according to the Daily Mirror. “Tennis is very important. I’m 100 percent focused when I’m on court and practicing. But it cannot be your whole life. You see some of the girls and if they are injured, it’s over.

“For me, if you can relax off the court, you can refresh your mind. I can go and play mini-golf and be fresh when I play. If you don’t get a good result everyone is ‘This is a disaster.’ I’m saying: ‘Relax, it’s not a disaster. I lost a tennis match.’”

Caroline Wozniacki tries to prank Maria Sharapova with balloon, fails (Video)

Caroline Wozniacki had a brilliant plan to scare Maria Sharapova at Indian Wells, Ca. Wednesday, but things did not go according to plan. Wozniacki wanted to jump on a balloon while Sharapova was giving an interview. Unfortunately, Caroline’s balloon was not properly inflated and did not explode like she hoped. A lot of build up and nothing but a let down for Caroline. Hmm, that sounds like a familiar story.

Rory McIlroy wins a point vs. Maria Sharapova in her charity match against Caroline Wozniacki (Video)

Rory McIlroy has been on top of the world since Sunday afternoon — no pun intended. With his win at the Honda Classic in Florida, the 22-year-old McIlroy became the second-youngest golfer ever to be ranked No. 1 in the world, behind only Tiger Woods who did it when he was 21. On Monday night, he attended a charity tennis match between his girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki and Maria Sharapova. Toward the end of the evening, Sharapova found herself in a dance-off with a young girl and a man from the audience. Wozniacki wanted in on the fun, so she asked if there were any hot guys in the stands who would like to dance with her. As you can see, McIlroy’s hand shot up. The two did not dance, however.

Instead, McIlroy came onto the court and Wozniacki handed him her racquet and two balls. At about the 2:25 mark, you can see Rory going through a volley with Sharapova and eventually winning a point against her. I’m sure Maria was giving it her all. Perhaps giving up junk food has not only propelled McIlroy to the top of the golf world, but also made him a solid tennis player.

Caroline Wozniacki and Rory McIlroy giving up junk food as terms of a bet

For the time being, Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki have new diets. Perhaps the diets will help the tennis star and the golf star elevate their games to a new level, because according to Woz, the couple is giving up junk food. As Sport24.com shared with us, Wozniacki and McIlroy have a bet going to see who will cave and eat their favorite junk foods first. Caroline says she has given up mostly sweets while Rory has agreed to cut out chips, popcorn, and soda. The bet is supposedly for a “considerable amount.”

“Let’s just put it this way,” Wozniacki said. “I wouldn’t do it for a pair of sunglasses. I wouldn’t put myself through that.”

They could be betting big bucks, or maybe Woz is going to give Rory a custom tennis racquet that reads McNiacki if McIlroy ends up winning to go along with the custom club he gave her.

“Actually I think I’m going to win,” Wozniacki said. “I’m stubborn so I’m not going to give up. And I trust him, yeah. He’s such a bad liar, so I would tell right away if he had eaten something unhealthy.”

Is this the cutest couple in the world or what?
