Colt McCoy Takes Steps Back to End Season, Losing Franchise QB Status?

Colt McCoy’s NFL career started off on a disappointing note — he wasn’t drafted until late in the third round by the Cleveland Browns, and that was after the Browns said they would take him higher. Colt struggled in the preseason and went into the year as the team’s third stringer. After sitting on the bench the first five weeks of the year, starter Jake Delhomme and backup Seneca Wallace hurt their ankles, leaving McCoy as the only healthy Cleveland quarterback for week six.

Colt had the tough task of facing the Steelers in his NFL debut, but he didn’t play poorly. He had 281 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions against the best defense in the league at the time. McCoy appeared to be a revelation after that; he didn’t turn over the ball his next three starts, leading the Browns to upset wins over the Saints and Patriots, and a near win over the Jets.

McCoy hurt his ankle and missed two weeks, but he returned to start the final three games of the year for the Browns — all losses. He was intercepted three times in back-to-back starts, albeit against the strong defenses of Baltimore and Pittsburgh. It took two months, but McCoy finally began to endure typical rookie struggles. Now the question is whether McCoy is still the franchise quarterback he appeared to be, or just another average quarterback.

Colt McCoy Leads 4th Quarter Comeback Against Jets, Falls Short in OT

When the Cleveland Browns dominated the Patriots last Sunday, a modest stat line and an outstanding performance by Peyton Hillis overshadowed what was a very good game from Colt McCoy.  After leading the Browns to a 4th quarter comeback that the Browns should have won on Sunday, McCoy should get plenty of credit this week.

I think we can officially say McCoy became a man today.  His first four NFL starts have been against the Steelers, Saints, Patriots, and Jets.  He’s won two of them and should have won a third.  Peyton Manning would be pleased with that result.  The Browns have played excellent team football over that stretch and Eric Mangini has out-coached the opposition for the most part.  On Sunday, it was McCoy’s composure down the stretch that put Cleveland in a position to win.

With his team trailing 20-13 and staring one of the toughest defenses in the NFL in his face, McCoy ran the two-minute drill to perfection and capped a terrific drive off with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Mohamed Massaquoi to send the game to overtime.

Cleveland’s defense came out and forced a punt right away in OT and McCoy was again able to lead an impressive drive that should have given the Browns a shot at a game-winning field goal.  After making a big play on third down to get past the sticks and just about into field goal range, Chansi Stuckey coughed the ball up fighting for extra yardage near the sideline.  The Jets recovered the fumble and drove down the field, but Nick Folk missed a 47-yard field goal to keep the Browns alive.

Colt McCoy Likely to Start for Browns

When Jake Delhomme entered the Browns’ game against the Falcons last weekend right before halftime, he said Atlanta’s players were smelling blood in the water. That’s because Delhomme already had a sprained ankle and had to get painkilling injections just to be able to back up Seneca Wallace. Wallace was knocked out with a sprained ankle as well, and the hobbled Delhomme ended up adding a low ankle sprain to go along with his high ankle sprain.

Without Delhomme and Wallace available this weekend (damned sprained ankles!), the Browns signed former Jets quarterback Brett Ratliff and reportedly told Colt McCoy that he was starting, according to Chip Brown via Rotoworld. McCoy, who did not look good in the preseason, could not be drawing a tougher assignment for his first career start — the Steelers, healthy and coming off a bye week, in Pittsburgh.

McCoy was 28/39 for 232 yards with no touchdowns, two picks, and two fumbles in the preseason. While the numbers aren’t pretty, at least Colt improved as the preseason went on and he turned in a 13/13 performance in the team’s finale. Right now the Steelers are a 14-point favorite in the game. They have Ben Roethlisberger making his season debut Sunday. The Browns may have Colt McCoy making his NFL debut. I’ll take the Steelers minus the points, thank you very much.

Better Proposal: Colt McCoy to Rachel Glandorf or Ian Johnson to Cheerleader?

Texas quarterback Colt McCoy proposed to his college girlfriend Rachel Glandorf on Monday night and she said yes. The proposal was done very much in the Texas spirit — bigger and better than anything else. McCoy reportedly brought Glandorf into Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Monday night. Then “When they got to the field, “Will You Marry Me?” was on the stadium’s giant high definition scoreboard screen.” McCoy was down on his knee proposing to Glandorf who said “yes.” McCoy’s proposal got plenty of headlines but it wasn’t as well-known as Ian Johnson’s Fiesta Bowl proposal.

Rachel Glandorf Pics

Many sports fans won’t forget the Boise State running back who got down on one knee following David’s win over Goliath. Ian Johnson proposed to his cheerleader girlfriend following Boise’s Fiesta Bowl win over Oklahoma and the two are happily married today as a Sports Illustrated followup indicated recently. Minus sideline reporter Chris Myers who spoiled the surprise, Johnson earned major points for his ballsy move on national TV. Colt’s proposal was pretty smooth, but without footage I think I’ll have to give Johnson the nod. Does anyone have a video of this stadium scoreboard proposal or what?

Colt McCoy’s Girlfriend Rachel Glandorf Is Hot, He Should be Proud

UPDATE: Colt McCoy and Rachel Glandorf are engaged

Yes, the blonde in the stand of the Texas-Missouri game that kept being featured on TV was Colt McCoy’s girlfriend. Turns out it’s Rachel Glandorf, a Baylor track athlete who also does some TV reporting — presumably how she met Colt. Anyway, I’m not into particulars. All that concerns me in the matter are looks. Good ones at that. (check out other hot college football girlfriends below)
