When Nick Saban announced on Wednesday that safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix was suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules, the immediate reaction was for people to ask what led to the suspension. Well now we know.
The Tuscaloosa News reported on Thursday that Alabama strength and conditioning coach Corey Harris loaned Clinton-Dix money, which is a violation of NCAA rules.
According to The News, Harris loaned Clinton-Dix less than $500 after the safety’s car was broken into in late June. A police report Clinton-Dix filed following the theft states that clothes, shoes, subwoofers, money and an iPad were among the belongings stolen from his car.
Harris has been placed on administrative leave for providing the money to Clinton-Dix, which supposedly was paid back. CBS Sports reports that Alabama expects Clinton-Dix to miss 1-3 games during the suspension.
As another concern, Alabama’s compliance office learned when investigating the matter that Harris has ties to a sports agent. Clinton-Dix is considered one of the top safeties in the country and a strong NFL prospect.
