Grigor Dimitrov believes having girlfriend Maria Sharapova at his matches helps him

Maria Sharapova Grigor Dimitrov

Grigor Dimitrov won his third title of the year Sunday when he beat Feliciano Lopez 6-7, 7-6, 7-6 to win the Aegon Championship.

Dimitrov’s girlfriend, Maria Sharapova, was in attendance supporting Dimitrov during the final on Sunday, and he said after the match that having her around definitely helps him.

“She’s just been unbelievable, with me throughout all the year so far and just supporting me,” he said in a press conference after the match. “The feeling is pretty mutual. I hope that’s not going to be the last tournament that she’s at. Having Maria on my side definitely adds up. There is a lot to learn from a tremendous champion like her.”

Dimitrov and Sharapova confirmed their relationship last year after they were photographed by the paparazzi in Madrid. They were rumored to be dating for months before that, so they’ve been together for over a year.

Based on their successes, it seems like the relationship has been mutually beneficial.

Dimitrov has won four tournaments in his career and, at 23, is just starting to emerge. Sharapova, 27, has won 32 WTA titles and all four grand slams. She won the French Open earlier this month for the second time in her career, giving her five total majors.

When Dimitrov says there is a lot to learn from a tremendous champion like Maria, he’s absolutely correct.

Grigor Dimitrov stops match to help ballgirl (Video)

Grigor Dimitrov ballgirlGrigor Dimitrov may have lost his third-round match at the Sony Open in Miami to Kei Nishikori on Sunday, but he was a winner for the nice gesture he made.

Early in the second set of the match, Dimitrov was between points and asked a ballgirl for his towel so he could dry off. She obviously had a delayed response, leading Dimitrov to realize she was struggling with the heat and humidity. The charming tennis player then walked the ballgirl off the court so she could be treated. He then went back to resume the match.

It’s pretty easy to see what girlfriend Maria Sharapova must see in him.

Ekaterina Bychkova thinks Maria Sharapova-Grigor Dimitrov relationship is a PR move

Maria Sharapova Grigor Dimitrov

Russian tennis player Ekaterina Bychkova doesn’t make a whole lot of noise for her play, but she’s made some noise for questioning the relationship between Maria Sharapova and Grigor Dimitrov.

In an interview with Tribune Russia, Bychkova didn’t necessarily question whether the two tennis players were in love, but she did suggest that the relationship is a PR move.

Here’s how the interview Q&A went based on Google Translate:

- There was talk that she is not acting for any other reason …

- Pregnancy? Nonsense! Do you believe that Sharapova and Dimitrov …

- … Sharapova Dimitrov and love each other, and there are fears that this may adversely affect their professional careers.

- Love is love, and that’s fine, but this love PR still gives a bit … (laughs)

Tennis World had an even harsher translation of the comments.

“Love is love, but the one between her and Dimitrov seems like public relations stuff… It’s difficult to have relationships when you constantly travel around the world.”

If Sharapova and Dimitrov are together to enhance their images PR-wise, it wouldn’t be the first time celebrities got together for that reason. Many have said that’s what’s going on between Lindsey Vonn and Tiger Woods. But I don’t necessarily think that’s the case with Sharapova and Dimitrov.

If their relationship were just for PR purposes, then why didn’t Sharapova confirm it for several months? And if she were in a relationship to get a PR boost, wouldn’t her handlers have chosen a more marketable/well known male?

Sharapova certainly does some very creative things for PR purposes, but I don’t think this is one of them.

Roger Federer doesn’t like Grigor Dimitrov having ‘Baby Fed’ nickname

Grigor Dimitrov Roger Federer

Grigor Dimitrov has a style of game similar to Roger Federer, which has led to him receiving the nickname “Baby Fed.” But as we’ve found out recently, neither party is too fond of the name.

Federer beat Dimitrov 6-3, 7-6 in Basel last week for the first meeting between the two. After his win, Federer told reporters he hopes people will stop calling Dimitrov by that nickname.

“I hope people don’t call him Baby Fed so often anymore,” Federer told Swiss reporters after his victory, via The New York Times. “At first it’s funny, but it gets annoying.”

Was Federer saying that because he feels like Dimitrov has his own identity and doesn’t need to be nicknamed after another player? Or because Dimitrov isn’t even close to his level? Maybe it’s a bit of both.

Whatever the case, we know that Dimitrov also doesn’t like the nickname.

“All the comparisons, I think that I definitely want people to stop with that,” Dimitrov told CNN in May. “Of course we have some similarities here and there and I’m flattered to hear that. Actually I thought it was really cool at the beginning. But with time I’ve realized that I’m trying to build up my own style and when I’m on court to do my own shots.”

Dimitrov, who is also dating Maria Sharapova, is currently ranked No. 22 in the world. But keep in mind that the furthest the 22-year-old has reached in a grand slam is the third round. Federer was 22 when he won his first major and took off from there. Maybe Dimitrov will find similar form.

Maria Sharapova not engaged to boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov

Maria Sharapova says she is not engaged to boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov, contrary to what a gossip report speculated last week.

The Daily Mail shared a photo last week of Sharapova with a ring on her ring finger and speculated that she might be engaged to Dimitrov, who is the No. 29 ranked male tennis player in the world. The report was a huge stretch because the ring on her finger looked NOTHING like an engagement ring. Still, there was enough substance behind the report that Larry King asked Sharapova whether she was engaged during an interview this week.

Grigor Dimitrov does strip tease at Novak Djokovic’s urging (Video)

Grigor Dimitrov and Novak Djokovic played at the Boodles exhibition this week in England, and they definitely entertained the crowd.

Djokovic, who avenged a loss to Dimitrov at the Madrid Open by winning their rematch at the French Open, defeated Dimitrov 5-7, 6-3, 10-6 in the Wimbledon tune-up. The two entertained the crowd, and they gave fans more than an eyeful.

At one point, Djokovic worked the crowd as he prepared to change his shirt, getting them to chant and cheer as he bounced around and gyrated before stripping down. Djokovic then baited Dimitrov and urged him to remove his shirt. Dimitrov gave in and took off his shirt, much to the delight of the fans. Dimitrov even twirled his shirt above his head and tossed it into the crowd.

Maria Sharapova confirms Grigor Dimitrov is her boyfriend in great way

Maria Sharapova Grigor Dimitrov

Maria Sharapova was rumored to be dating fellow tennis player Grigor Dimitrov for months, but they never confirmed the relationship. It wasn’t until the two were photographed by the paparazzi after Dimitrov’s upset win over Novak Djokovic at the Madrid Open that she finally confirmed they were dating. And she did so in a great way.

After beating Kaia Kanepi 6-2, 6-4 at the Madrid Open, Sharapova went to sign a television camera as is customary for the winner. Instead of signing her name, Sharapova wrote a funny message intended for the paparazzi: “How did you catch us???”

At least there’s no hiding it anymore, and Maria is a good sport about things.

Sharapova was previously engaged to basketball player Sasha Vujacic, but the two broke up last year. Dimitrov, a 21-year-old Bulgarian player currently ranked No. 28 in the world, was rumored to have gone out with Serena Williams in the past.
