Jerry Remy announced Monday that he will be back in his familiar role as color commentator for Red Sox games on NESN this season. Remy took a leave from broadcasting Sox games on Aug. 15 after his son, Jared, was accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death. RemDawg has also battled depression and lung cancer, but he received a clean bill of health and is going back to the Sawx after receiving encouragement from his wife and others.
In his press conference announcing his return, Remy answered some questions about parenting, the status of his grandchildren (he’s applied for custody), and how things have been for him emotionally over the past several months. You can read the transcript of his full Q&A session over at WEEI.com.
What transpired with Remy’s son is truly awful and there is no way around that. But that wasn’t Jerry who allegedly murdered the woman. He may feel terribly about it, have regrets, and question his parenting, but he is not the person who committed the crime. Hopefully he will get over it as much as possible and not blame himself.
I’m really happy that he will be back. Red Sox games are not the same without him calling them.
