Marcus Smart has inside of draft jacket specially embroidered

Marcus Smart jacket

Marcus Smart was selected sixth overall Thursday by the Boston Celtics and showed off the customized jacket he was sporting for the draft.

The inside of Smart’s jacket was embroidered with all sorts of logos and messages that have special meaning for his life.

You can see the logo of Smart’s college, Oklahoma State, on the inside. There’s a shape of the state of Texas, which is where Smart is from, on the right side of the jacket. There’s also an “RIP Todd” on the left side. That is for Smart’s older brother, Todd, who died of cancer at the age of 33.

Smart isn’t the first player to customize the inside of his suit jacket, but we certainly like his personal touch.

Utah Jazz seriously considering Marcus Smart?

Marcus SmartMarcus Smart is expected to be one of the top players chosen in the NBA Draft Thursday, and it sounds like he could end up being drafted by the Utah Jazz.

Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday afternoon that the Jazz are giving Smart “serious consideration” at No. 5 overall.

Smart spent two seasons at Oklahoma State and averaged 18 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.9 steals per game as a sophomore while shooting 42.2 percent from the field. He’s versatile for a 6-foot-4 guard and can stuff the stat sheet.

Despite his encounter with an infamous Texas Tech fan during the season that resulted in tons of negative press, he’s still considered one of the top prospects in the draft class. Draft Express has him going No. 6 overall to the Celtics in their mock draft.

Iowa State fans mock Marcus Smart by flopping during game against Oklahoma State (Video)

Oklahoma State’s Marcus Smart burst onto the college basketball scene last season as a freshman. He was named Big 12 Conference Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and earned a spot on the All-American Second Team.

Smart’s sophomore season will likely be remembered for the ugly shoving incident involving a fan during Oklahoma State’s game against Texas Tech. He’s also gained a bit of a reputation as a flopper. This possession versus Iowa State in February is an example of why.

iowa-state-fans-flopOn Saturday, Smart and the Cowboys were in Ames, Iowa to take on the Cyclones again. As you can probably imagine, Iowa State fans haven’t forgotten what happened in the above video and took every opportunity to let Marcus Smart know how they felt about it.

You have to admit, that’s pretty good.

Marcus Smart calls out Oklahoma State blogger during loss to Baylor

Marcus-SmartOklahoma State deserves plenty of criticism for its current stretch of play. The Cowboys have lost seven straight games and are now 4-19 in the Big 12 after losing to Baylor. Marcus Smart is currently serving a three-game suspension for shoving a Texas Tech fan, but that doesn’t mean is going to sit quietly while people say unkind things about his teammates.

Smart called out Kyle Porter, the guy who runs the popular Oklahoma State blog Pistols Firing, during Monday night’s loss to Baylor. Porter sent a number of negative tweets about the team. Here are a few.

Smart, who was serving the third and final game of his suspension, told Porter to stop watching the team if he only has negative things to say.

Texas Tech fan Jeff Orr says he called Marcus Smart a ‘piece of crap’

Texas Tech conducted an investigation of the incident involving Red Raiders fan Jeff Orr and Oklahoma State’s Marcus Smart on Saturday night. As most of you have seen, Smart shoved Orr during the game after Orr appeared to yell something derogatory at him. On Sunday, Texas Tech announced its findings and Orr issued a statement explaining his side of the story.

“I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere apologies to Marcus Smart, Oklahoma State, Tubby Smith and the Texas Tech Men’s Basketball program,” Orr said, via Eye on College Basketball. “My actions last night were inappropriate and do not reflect myself or Texas Tech — a university I love dearly. I regret calling Mr. Smart a ‘piece of crap’ but I want to make it known that I did not use a racial slur of any kind. Additionally, I would like to offer my apologies to Texas Tech fans that have been embarrassed by the attention this incident has created.”

There was speculation that Orr slung a racial slur at Smart, but apparently he only called him a c—sucker and not a jive turkey. Smart has been suspended three games by the Big 12 for the incident and has also issued an apology.

“I want to apologize to the fan, whose name is Jeff Orr, I want to apologize to him, my teammates, my coach,” he said Sunday evening. “This is not how I [conduct] myself. I just can’t let that happen again. It’s a lesson I’ll have to learn from. It’s all upon me. I truly apologize to all those that are important to me. I feel I let my teammates down.”

Texas Tech also said that Orr has volunteered to not attend anymore games this season. Given his history of heckling opponents during games, that is probably for the best.

Texas Tech fan Jeff Orr has history of heckling, reportedly denies saying N-word

Marcus Smart is going to receive the brunt of the attention for going into the stands to shove a fan during Oklahoma State’s loss at Texas Tech on Saturday, but the fan who instigated the incident needs to be identified and called out in the same manner.

Jeff Orr Texas TechThe fan Smart went after is Jeff Orr, a 1983 Texas Tech graduate who is known for being one of the most passionate fans of the Red Raiders. An article was written about him in 2010 talking about how dedicated he is to the basketball and football programs. The guy drives roundtrip from Waco to Lubbock for games and puts on thousand of miles a year following the team around. But he’s not just some lovable fan who travels to watch his team; he actually has a reputation for getting himself involved in the action in inappropriate manners.

John Lucas III, who played for Baylor and Oklahoma State in college (both were conference opponents of Texas Tech) and is now with the Utah Jazz, tweeted Saturday that he recognized the fan as soon as he saw the video of Smart:

Then there’s this video, which shows Orr giving a Texas A&M player the f— you gesture in a separate incident:

Marcus Smart pushes fan during loss (Video)

Marcus Smart did exactly what athletes are never supposed to do: go after a fan.

Oklahoma State lost at Texas Tech 65-61 in Lubbock on Saturday night, and Smart went into the stands and actually pushed a fan in the final seconds of the game.

There are conflicting reports on what he said. Oklahoma State’s radio analyst reportedly said he heard Smart saying the fan called him the N-word. The fan in question — Jeff Orr — supposedly denied saying that, though he did admit to saying something he shouldn’t have.

Will Smart get punished in some way? We have no doubt he’ll be suspended and who knows what else. We’re pretty surprised that he wasn’t ejected from the game.

Not long after the incident took place, the stories about Orr began to emerge.

Some folks found a video that shows Orr giving a f— you sign to Texas A&M’s Bryan Davis after a dunk in a previous incident:
