Matthew Stafford and girlfriend Kelly Hall are engaged to be married

Kelly-Hall-Matthew-Stafford-engaged

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has one of the most attractive girlfriends in the WAG game, and we have been wondering for a long, long time when he is finally going to propose. It appears the deed has been done.

Stafford’s girlfriend Kelly Hall posted a photo on Instagram Monday of her and Stafford enjoying some ice cream together. She was sporting a massive ring on her left hand.

“Don’t think I could be happier!!” she wrote. “#icecream.”

We don’t know if Hall is saying she is thrilled to be enjoying the scrumptious flavors of Cold Stone Creamery or that Stafford has finally popped the question, but it’s probably a little bit of both. Hall’s brother chad broke the news earlier in the day.

Congrats to the happy couple. Now we can only hope being engaged doesn’t stop Hall from doing stuff like drunk modeling in Costa Rica.

Mike Ditka criticizes Matthew Stafford for wearing hat backwards

Matthew-Stafford-Kelly-HallDetroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is coming off back-to-back seasons in which he has made too many mistakes. After throwing a whopping 41 touchdowns and 16 interceptions in 2011, he threw 20 scores and 17 picks in 2012. This past season, Stafford threw 19 interceptions and 29 touchdowns. The turnovers have to stop, and Mike Ditka alluded to that on Sunday night.

Ditka, an ESPN analyst, said he sees “touches of greatness” in Stafford when he is not making dumb throws. He also said he would like to see Stafford change the way he dresses.

“I think he can make all the throws. He’s a smart kid,” Ditka said, per Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press. “I wish he’d put the baseball cap on frontwards instead of backwards all the time.”

Here we go again. Last month, a writer took a ton of heat for saying Colin Kaepernick does not act like a professional because he wears his hat backwards. We then shared with you a collage of photos that features Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and others wearing their hats backwards. Ditka apparently has a problem with it.

“If you’re the leader of the football team, I think you’ve got to stand up and be that leader, assume that role,” he said. “A lot of it is what you do on the field, certainly. But I think a little of it has to do with appearance, too. You know, respect the game, respect your team. That’s all.

“I’m not knocking him. I’m just saying that’s the first thing I would tell him if I inherited him. When you’re going to go do an interview, put it on like it’s supposed to be on, not backwards, sidewards, whatever way they put them on anymore.”

As we said with Kaepernick, wearing a backwards hat has nothing to do with being a professional or being prepared. It’s a backwards hat! If Stafford was flashing gang signs or being disrespectful during interviews, Ditka would have a point. Again, it’s a f—–g backwards hat.

Matthew Stafford’s girlfriend Kelly Hall gets roasted by Lions fan after she questions booing

Matthew-Stafford-girlfriend-Kelly-HallMatthew Stafford’s girlfriend Kelly Hall is one of our favorite sports girlfriends. Her Twitter and Instagram pages can put a smile on our face almost any day of the week, but the former Georgia cheerleader threw herself in the Lions den (see what I did there?) on Sunday and paid the price.

Like Jim Schwartz, Hall was upset by the fact that Detroit fans were booing the home team after Stafford threw a pick-six that allowed the New York Giants to tie the game. It didn’t matter that Lions fans were frustrated as their playoff hopes slipped away following another brutal loss. Here’s what Hall had to say.

After reading Hall’s tweet, one suffering Detroit fan with the Twitter handle @DetroitKoolAid fired back at her and became an instant internet sensation. His comment was priceless.

Matthew Stafford fakes out Cowboys for winning touchdown

The Detroit Lions made an impressive comeback against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday and won 31-30 after a great final drive led by Matthew Stafford.

Stafford hit Calvin Johnson for a 22-yard pass down to the 1-yard line with the clock running and under 30 seconds left. Since Detroit did not have a timeout to stop the clock, Stafford ran up to the line of scrimmage motioning the entire way that he was going to spike the ball. But when Stafford got up to the line of scrimmage, he realized he had a great opportunity to win the game right there.

Instead of spiking the ball, Stafford dove over the top of the line and reached out with the ball to break the plane. He then pulled the ball down and ran it in just to ensure they would get credit for the score. They did and the Lions won 31-30.

Stafford’s fake spike motions as he was running up to take the snap completely fooled both teams:

Megatron finished with 329 receiving yards in the game, which is second most all time behind Flipper Anderson. They needed every single one of those yards to get that thrilling win.

Matthew Stafford’s girlfriend Kelly Hall does ‘drunk modeling’ in Costa Rica (Video)

Matthew-Stafford-girlfriend-Kelly-HallMatthew Stafford’s girlfriend Kelly Hall spent some time in Costa Rica this week while the Detroit Lions quarterback continues to prepare for the 2013 season. Fortunately for all of us, she made just enough of her vacation public to keep us entertained.

My favorite moment that Hall captured in Costa Rica was a toss-up between the dancing video you see above and a picture of a pretty waterfall, but I decided to go with the pool dancing — or “drunk modeling” as she referred to it in her description. There was just no way I could pass up her variation of the “cat daddy” dance and the Ace of Base blaring in the background.

And that’s not all. A certain someone even chimed in in the comments section. No, it wasn’t Stafford:

Donovan McNabb: Matthew Stafford has done nothing for the Detroit Lions

Matthew-Stafford-auction-giftDonovan McNabb seems to become more opinionated by the day now that he has retired. The latest target of his criticism is Matthew Stafford, who signed a three-year extension with the Detroit Lions this week that will pay him $43 million in guaranteed money. To the surprise of no one, McNabb doesn’t think Stafford deserves it.

“When you look at just the numbers overall, you have to think about 12,000 yards and being the youngest quarterback to reach this feat and also the things he’s been able to accomplish, you know you begin to question this.” McNabb said on NFL Total Access Tuesday night, via MLive.com. “It’s about wins and losses again.

“Now, as a quarterback and as Matt Stafford, hey, I would take that contract just like Tony Romo took his contract. But is he worth top-5 money? I would have to say no. And I say that because it’s about wins and losses. What has he really done for the Detroit Lions? Nothing.”

You’ll notice McNabb mentioned Romo, which makes sense. The former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback also thought the contract Romo received from the Dallas Cowboys this offseason was insane.

“(Stafford’s) footwork late in the games begins to drift a little bit, tries to throw the sidearm, be a gunslinger and that gets him into trouble,” McNabb said. “Turnovers (are a) critical part of the game. And that’s what affects the Detroit Lions from being one of the upper echelon (teams) on the offensive end is because of the turnovers and the lack of discipline when it comes to the drop-back game.”

Obviously, it was worth the risk for Detroit. Drafting a quarterback is incredibly difficult and the quarterbacks around the league who have established themselves as elite rarely hit free agency. Do I agree with McNabb that Stafford is overpaid? For the most part, but he’s still young. For someone who whines about how much criticism they took during their NFL career, McNabb is doing a fantastic job of dishing it out.

Matthew Stafford buys own gift at auction, gives it to Children’s Hospital patient

As part of his contribution to the Griese-Hutchinson-Woodson fundraiser gala on Saturday night, Matthew Stafford donated a package of six tickets and travel to the Lions Monday Night Football game against the Bears in Chicago this October. His generosity did not stop there. The package sold for $15,000 at the auction, which raised money to benefit the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. The winning bidder? Matthew Stafford.

Stafford purchased his own gift and gave it to a young patient at the hospital named Faith Falzone, whom he was sitting with at the fundraiser. According to the Detroit News, Stafford and his girlfriend Kelly Hall have gotten to know the Falzone family and were touched by their story.

“They have been through so much in the past couple years, and to see how much they all supported each other and faith through their tough times was really inspiring” Stafford explained.

Two of the six tickets in Stafford’s package were donated by ESPN announcer Mike Tirico. The fundraiser was organized by former Michigan players Brian Griese, Charles Woodson, and Steve Hutchinson. The event raised over $1.5 million this year and has raised more than $5.5 million over the past six. Could Stafford have simply given the ticket package to Falzone and made her just as happy? Sure, but he decided to donate $15,000 to the foundation while he was at it.

“To have a guy that’s from Georgia get drafted by the Lions and be a very integral part of that team turning their franchise around,” Hutchinson said when asked about Stafford’s genorosity, “and then to be able to come to a U-M event that he has no affiliation with and donate $15,000 and buy his own tickets that he donated and then give them to a family whose daughter is going to have surgery in the next couple days here … you couldn’t write a better fictional story if you had to.”

Indeed you could not. Extremely classy move by Stafford and an A+ for unique execution.
