Chipper Jones calls out Melky Cabrera for crotch chopping again

Melky Cabrera antagonized Braves fans for the second day in a row, and this time Chipper Jones called him out for his actions.

During the third inning of Tuesday’s series opener between the Braves and Giants, Cabrera did a “suck it” crotch chop to the Braves fans after making a catch.

Cabrera repeated the gesture at least twice during the Giants’ 9-4 win on Wednesday. He did it after homering in the sixth, and again after Gregor Blanco’s home run in the 11th made it 9-3.

On top of that, Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area says Melky teased Braves fans by pretending to throw balls to them, and that he did a hand gesture after Jason Heyward decided not to tag on a ball hit to him in deep left (seen above).

Chipper Jones, who was probably frustrated after committing two costly errors, took note of Cabrera’s behavior.

“That’s Melky, and that’s why he’s not here anymore,” Jones said after the game, per CSN Bay Area. “He got a little happy when I think (Gregor) Blanco hit the home run. That won’t be forgotten.”

Sounds to me like someone is getting dosed on Thursday. That will probably be fine with Braves fans who booed Cabrera after he homered. The former Brave was really doing some bush league garbage all series long.

Melky Cabrera taunts Braves fans with crotch chop (Video)

Melky Cabrera taunted some Braves fans with a crotch chop straight out of the WWE playbook on Tuesday. While it’s unclear what motivated the “suck it” gesture, we’re guessing it has to do with Melky’s stinky season with the Braves in 2010.

Melky was dealt to the Braves from the Yankees prior to the 2010 season as a main piece in the Javy Vazquez trade. Atlanta released him after he posted a below-average season, and he was picked up by the Royals for whom he bashed 18 home runs and OPSd a career-high .809. The Royals traded the Melkster to the Giants for Jonathan Sanchez, and he went all crazy and became an All-Star starter with a .353/.392/.516 stat line this season.

We’re guessing the fans were razzing him for being great with San Francisco while stinking with Atlanta and that that was his response. It’s not often that we see players taunt opposing fan bases during games (though one guy has made a habit of it). Maybe Melky would be better off going with the Jeff Francoeur approach in the future.

UPDATE: Melky did even more taunting on Wednesday.

Bryce Harper wears gold cleats, Melky Cabrera goes orange at All-Star Game

The 2012 MLB All-Star Game turned into a bit of a fashion show in Kansas City. As you can see in the photos above, Bryce Harper and Melky Cabrera really stood out with their flashy footwear. Cabrera, who took home MVP honors, wore bright orange cleats from Nike (David Wright wore them too) and went 2-for-3 with a 2-run home run in them. Harper wore gold Under Armour cleats and went 0-for-1 with a walk and strikeout, and he also whiffed on a ball in left field.

Below is a closer look at Harper’s cleats:
