Did Seahawks fans throw popcorn at NaVorro Bowman as he was carted off? (GIF)

NaVorro-Bowman-popcornSeattle Seahawks fans are known for being some of the loudest in sports. The team feels a special connection with its “12th man,” and you can understand why. Seattle has been one of the most difficult teams to play on the road in recent years, mostly because of the noise. However, the person or persons who threw popcorn at NaVorro Bowman on Sunday have no reason to be proud.

Bowman suffered a gruesome leg injury on a play near the goal line in the fourth quarter. Those of you who have a strong stomach can watch the play here. As he was being carted off the field and into the locker room, Bowman appeared to get a popcorn shower.

NaVorro Bowman suffers nasty leg injury (GIF)

NaVorro-Bowman-leg-injurySan Francisco 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman suffered a gruesome leg injury on a crucial play during the fourth quarter of the NFC Championship Game on Sunday. Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jermaine Kearse caught a pass at around the 2-yard line and fumbled. Bowman clearly recovered the fumble, but someone was able to wrestle it away from him under the pile.

Bowman was likely in a lot of pain, which led to a Seahawks player being able to tear the ball out of his arm. Fortunately for San Francisco, the Seahawks went for it on fourth down and Marshawn Lynch fumbled on the very next play.

Recovery of a loose ball in the field of play is not reviewable. If the play occurred in the end zone, the officials would have been able to look at it again and would have realized Bowman had possession.

NaVorro Bowman wins game for 49ers with pick-six (GIF)

Navorro Bowman interceptionCandlestick Park was home to many memorable sporting moments, so it was only appropriate that NaVorro Bowman gave it a special sendoff.

Bowman made a great interception and returned it 89 yards for a touchdown to totally change Monday night’s game between the San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons.

The Falcons had just scored a touchdown to cut San Francisco’s lead to three points with 2:09 left, and they recovered an onside kick at the 30. Passes to Harry Douglas and Tony Gonzalez took it down to the 10, and it looked like the Falcons were going to score a go-ahead touchdown. But that’s when Bowman, who whiffed on the onside kick allowing Atlanta to recover, redeemed himself.

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh was ecstatic after the game, calling the play the “best birthday present I’ve ever gotten … second only to being born.”

It was truly an awesome play, and it helped give the 49ers a thrilling 34-24 win. It also clinched a playoff berth for San Francisco.

Here’s another look at the interception by Bowman:

NaVorro Bowman: Colin Kaepernick made ‘huge mistake’ wearing Miami Dolphins hat

Colin-Kaepernick-Dolphins-hatA lot of people feel that Colin Kaepernick took too much heat for wearing a Miami Dolphins hat a couple weeks ago, but at least one of his San Francisco 49ers teammates thought the criticism was well-deserved. Linebacker NaVorro Bowman, who at age 25 is a young player in the league like Kaepernick, said it was a bonehead move.

“This is a huge mistake by Kaep,” Bowman told the NFL Network, via Around the League. “I’m sure he understands that now. In his defense, we’re young, in our era these days we like to match our snapbacks with our outfits.”

Kaepernick made no apologies for wearing the hat and even called out his fans for being upset over it. He later tried to make up for it by wearing his Niners gear loud and proud, but most fans think their quarterback wearing his own team’s colors should be a given.

“The hats now these days are very important to the outfit, so Kaep I understand what you did, but let’s stay away from the NFL teams,” Bowman added. “Stick to NBA, go to college or the baseball hats.”

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith, who appeared on the same “NFL Total Access” segment, said the general rule is “you stick to baseball or hockey or whatever” to avoid meaningless controversies like this one. The Miami Marlins may stink, but their colors are similar to the Dolphins’ colors. Marlins gear would match Kaepernick’s outfits just the same, and it probably wouldn’t infuriate his fans.

No harm, no foul, as they say. Just don’t do it again, Colin. Even your own teammates realize how much of a no-no that is.
