Brazil fans wear Neymar masks to show support

Brazil will have their hands full against Germany in the World Cup semifinal on Tuesday, with Neymar out due to a fractured vertebrae and captain Thiago Silva suspended after picking up two yellow cards in the tournament. In order to show their support for their injured superstar, thousands of Brazil fans are wearing Neymar masks.

The masks, which have been printed off the website SomosTodosNeymar.com.br by the tens of thousands, could be seen around Belo Horizonte in the hours leading up to the match.

Some fans who were wearing German colors were even spotted wearing the Neymar face.

While the Germans must be glad they don’t have to defend Neymar, no one wants to see a player miss a match because of a serious injury. Brazil has plenty to overcome if they hope to win in front of the home fans.

Neymar suffers fractured vertebrae, out for remainder of World Cup

neymar-back-injury-smallAs the host nation for this year’s World Cup, and one of the great soccer nations, the pressure for Brazil to lift the trophy at the end of the tournament is immense.

For that to happen, a fully fit squad for manager Luiz Felipe Scolari to choose from would be ideal. After Friday’s quarterfinal match against Colombia that will no longer be the case.

Brazil star Neymar was stretchered off the field after taking a knee to the back from Juan Zúñiga. With one of the game’s brightest young stars in visible pain, the thoughts of many turned to Neymar’s possible availability for Tuesday’s semifinal meeting with Germany.

As it turns out, 22-year-old will not be able to play on Tuesday, or in the final if his country makes it that far. The collision has resulted in a fractured vertebrae and Neymar will be sidelined for the remainder of the World Cup.

Obviously, a huge blow for Brazil as if they are to capture their sixth World Cup championship it will have to be done without their best player. Thankfully, it doesn’t appear surgery will be required and we can only hope Neymar makes a full and speedy recovery.

Neymar was carried off the field on a stretcher during Brazil’s quarterfinal match with Colombia on Friday at the World Cup after taking a knee to the back from Juan Zuniga.

The two were going for the ball and Zuniga struck Neymar.

Neymar was doing pretty badly. Just look at his face as he was on the stretcher:

Maybe it was a combination of the pain of the injury and timing of it that got to Neymar.

Neymar starts crying during national anthem

Brazilian star Neymar Jr. was overcome with emotion during his country’s national anthem prior to Tuesday’s game against Mexico. Neymar, who is considered Brazil’s most dangerous attacker, wiped his eyes while his teammates sang along.

Here’s another angle of Neymar with his head down.

The World Cup means everything to a lot of players from across the globe. Guys like Neymar make millions of dollars during the course of the year, but they may only get three or four chances to represent their country in the World Cup. While he didn’t exactly start the Knowshon Moreno-style waterworks, you can understand why Neymar was overwhelmed.

Neymar’s girlfriend Gabriella Lenzi ready for another match

After defeating Croatia in its first game of group play, Brazil has put itself in a position to all but clinch a spot in the knockout rounds with a win over Mexico on Tuesday. If you’re a fan of the host team, you should have no fear — Neymar’s good luck charm is once again in attendance.

Neymar’s girlfriend, stunning Brazilian model Gabriella Lenzi, posted the Instagram photo you see above right as the Brazil-Mexico game was about to get underway.

“Ready for the game,” she wrote.

Lenzi also brought some team-colored balloons with her to the stadium, so I hope no one is sitting behind her.

Neymar was the hero for Brazil in its first game, scoring both the tying and eventual game-winning goals. But we all know Gabriella is the good luck charm. If she goes to every game, the rest of the world doesn’t stand a chance.

Neymar played the role of hero for Brazil in its win over Croatia on Thursday, scoring on an incredibly accurate goal to tie the game at 1-1 and later putting his team on top 2-1 with a penalty kick. Some might argue that the real hero was sitting in the stands cheering for Neymar. Her name is Gabriella Lenzi, and she’s the girlfriend of the 22-year-old star.

Lenzi, a Brazilian model who has over 400,000 followers on Instagram, posted a selfie during Thursday’s game. I would have thought she’d be sitting a little closer to the field.

Lenzi has proved on social media that she knows how to have a good time.

A controversial penalty called on Croatia at 68:50 of the second half in their Group A match with Brazil at the 2014 World Cup resulted in a penalty kick and goal by Neymar to give Brazil a 2-1 lead.

Fred was brought down inside the box by Dejan Lovren as he was attempting to kick a shot on goal. Though Lovren grabbed Fred by the shirt and held him back, there was a bit of an acting job by Fred.

The yellow card gave Brazil a penalty kick, and Neymar booted it in to give Brazil a 2-1 lead. The Croatians were fuming after the call, as you could imagine.
