Andy Dalton commits three straight turnovers to kill Bengals (GIFs)

Andy Dalton

Andy Dalton crushed the Cincinnati Bengals’ chances of beating San Diego at home in their wild card playoff game on Sunday by committing three turnovers in a row during the third and fourth quarter.

The first turnover occurred when Dalton scrambled for a first down and dove head first but lost the ball. The Chargers recovered at the 46 and ended up with a field goal to go up 17-10.

On the Bengals’ next possession, Dalton was intercepted by Shareece Wright, who returned the ball to the 3-yard line:

Andrew Luck recovers Donald Brown fumble, scores touchdown (GIF)

Things literally were bouncing the Colts’ way in the fourth quarter of their playoff game with the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday.

Just as soon as the NBC announcers mentioned that Donald Brown had never lost a fumble in his career, the Colts running back of course fumbled. Luckily the ball deflected off one of his teammate’s helmet, and Andrew Luck alertly picked it up and punched it in for a touchdown. The wild TD allowed Indy to make the game the closest it had been since the first quarter, which was quite impressive considering they trailed by 28 early in the third quarter.

You gotta love Luck’s Superman full extension:

Trent Richardson fumbles on first career playoff carry (GIF)

Trent-Richardson-fumbleTrent Richardson is running out of time to prove that the Indianapolis Colts did not make a huge mistake in trading for him. The former first-round pick fumbled on his first touch of the game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday.

To make matters worse, no one stripped the ball away from Richardson’s arms. Rather than hitting the hole and taking what his blockers gave him, Richardson danced around the line of scrimmage and looked for an opening. He tried to switch hands with the ball in the process and ended up putting it on the ground.

The Cleveland Browns may have straight up robbed the Colts of a first-round draft pick by getting them to take Richardson off their hands.

Jamaal Charles leaves playoff game with possible concussion

Jamaal-Charles-concussionKansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles left Sunday’s opening-round playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts with an apparent head injury early in the first quarter. Charles appeared to slam the back of his head into the turf on a run during Kansas City’s first drive.

Charles, who has accounted for more than 30% of the Chiefs offense this season, had to be helped off the field. He seemed woozy and was evaluated by a team trainer on the sideline for a few minutes. A trainer then took his helmet away and Charles was escorted to the locker room, presumably for further concussion testing. He looked visibly disappointed.

Charles is obviously the one player the Chiefs can ill afford to lose. He is a legitimate MVP candidate, having totaled 1,980 total yards from scrimmage this season despite missing a game. If he is unable to return, Kansas City would have to make some major adjustments.
