Ron Artest, Andrew Bynum Rip Amare Stoudemire After He Calls Pau Gasol Soft

On Saturday, Knicks big man Amare Stoudemire called Lakers forward Pau Gasol soft. He was at the Foot Locker House of Hoops and was asked what it was like going up against Pau Gasol when he got off the blast. Here’s the video via Slam Online:

When word got back to Lakers center Andrew Bynum, he immediately questioned Amare’s place to call Gasol soft, writing on twitter, “The NBA is a weird place! How can a man that plays 0 defense call a 2 time champion soft?”

But the best response of all came from Ron Artest, no surprise given his level of craziness. According to Beto Duran, Artest said before the Lakers’ loss to the Jazz Tuesday night “Amare butt naked in magazines and Pau’s soft?” That of course was a reference to Amare’s participation in a partially nude spread in a magazine. And if that wasn’t enough, perhaps making an Amare sailor outfit reference would have worked just as well.

The NBA, where hypocritical happens.

Pau Gasol Impersonator Michael Fanter (Video) Charging Too Much Money

How much would be willing to pay for the services of someone who looks exactly like Pau Gasol?  if he could play basketball like Gasol and you were an NBA general manager, the answer would probably be an enormous sum of money.  If you’re looking for an act for your daughter’s birthday party, Pau Gasol impersonator Michael Fanter is probably charging too much — unless your name is Bill Gates and you’re a huge Laker fan.

Deadspin recently reached out to Fanter’s spokesperson to get price for him to appear at their “15-year-old daughter’s birthday party.”  The spokesperson said Fanter would gladly take the job for $600 an hour, which is a discount from the going rate of $1,500 just for an appearance.  Do you think this is worth that much dough?

The guy looks exactly like Pau Gasol, but so what? He isn’t Pau Gasol. He’s not a phenomenal basketball player. He doesn’t talk like him. He doesn’t know Kobe Bryant.  He doesn’t even have the authentic satchel. In short, I don’t get it. Good for him for finding an impression he can master — at least physically. However, I don’t think this is Fanter’s ticket to Beverly Hills.

Pau Gasol: My New Favorite…Nope, There’s Just No Way I’m Saying That

Add Silvia Lopez Castro to the list of Steve’s smokin’ hot sports girlfriends. As a Celtics fan, I can’t bring myself to give Pau Gasol a sincere compliment.  In the interest of continuing a tradition I will, however, admit that his girlfriend is hot.  He’s supposedly been dating Silvia Lopez Castro, a Dream Cheers cheerleader, for a while now.  Dream Cheers is a traveling dance group that performs halftime shows for sports teams like FC Barcelona.

Shouldn’t she be dating some soccer player or someone whose looks haven’t been compared to more animals than anyone in the history of professional sports?  None the less, my opinion doesn’t matter and she’s settled with the llama.  And at the end of the day Gasol’s a lucky man — one with two straight championships and a trophy girlfriend. On a different note, could this purse have belonged to her? Certainly makes one think.  Here are some photos of Pau Gasol’s girlfriend, cheerleader Silvia Lopez Castro, for your viewing pleasure.

Today’s Humor: Pau Gasol’s Purse

I’ve looked at this picture for quite a while now before deciding to post it.  I didn’t want to take it out of context.  At first I’m thinking, “Maybe it’s a laptop bag.”  Then I’m thinking, “Okay, it’s a crappy picture, I don’t think the trim and part of the strap are actually pink; it just looks like they are.”  I now realize there’s really no way to defend it.  This is a picture of Pau Gasol wearing a purse, and I’m fairly certain the purse has pink trim and a somewhat pink strap.

Gasol’s been called soft before, and it clearly bothers him.  He vowed to be more physical this year in the NBA Finals than he was two years ago, and in Game 1 he came out doing just that.  He took it to Kevin Garnett the way KG took it to him in 2008 and was even somewhat outspoken about how KG has changed as a player, although the media blew his comments completely out of proportion.  The bottom line here is that with the exception of Game 1, you haven’t shown that much toughness, Pau — although the numbers have been there for the most part.  If it truly gets under your skin when people call you “soft”, try not to be spotted in public sporting women’s accessories.

Pau Gasol Comment on KG’s Changed Game Portrayed Poorly by Media

You didn’t really think that Lakers forward Pau Gasol would be dumb enough to rip Celtics forward Kevin Garnett unsolicited, did you? He’s much smarter than that, right? During one of the off days prior to Game 2 of the NBA Finals, Pau Gasol was asked how both he and Kevin Garnett have changed as players since they first played against each other. As Bob Ryan explained for The Boston Globe, Gasol’s comments were an honest and accurate assessment:

“And also on Kevin’s part he’s also lost some explosiveness. He’s more of a jump shooter now, you could say, comes off the lane. Before he had a really quick first step and was getting to the lane and was more aggressive then. Time passes and we all suffer it one way or the other, but he’s still a terrific player, a terrific competitor and he’s going to bring everything he’s got. You can count on that.”

Of course anytime you hear that comment from Pau, like in this piece by ESPN reporter Rachel Nichols, the question asked is left out so people don’t get to hear the entire exchange to judge for themselves. Then the quote gets brought to Garnett and pisses him off prior to Game 2, and people start throwing out cliches about “waking a sleeping giant” and “tugging on Superman’s cape.” Any wonder why players don’t like dealing with the media? Or maybe Gasol should be more guarded next time and feed us b.s. because we kill players who give us honesty.

Video: Pau Gasol Fouled Hard by Mickael Pietrus to End Game 4

While a lot of people will be talking about Derek Fisher’s big three pointers to help the Lakers win Game 4 and the Magic blowing a five point lead with a minute to play, it was a play at the very end of the game that was pretty controversial. Likely frustrated by his team blowing the game, Mickael Pietrus took out some anger against Pau Gasol. The game was already over at this point:

I don’t know how to look at this as anything other than Pietrus being a poor sport. Honestly, watching this in full-speed reminds me of one of those Terry Tate Reebok commercials. Pietrus should have taken care of things during the game so he didn’t have to release frustration at the end of it.

Video: Pau Gasol Shows Off the Dribbling Skills, Goes Between the Legs

The Lakers handled the Jazz pretty well on Friday night, beating them 113-100. Pau Gasol had 21 points giving him 10,001 in his career, making him the 4th European-born player to crack that mark. That may have been an impressive milestone to break, but Pau’s truly impressive feat was the fastbreak he led in the final minutes. Check out Pau harnessing his inner point guard:

Maybe just being in a Laker jersey Pau felt he had to do his best Shaq impression. I’d say those few seconds on the court perfectly sum up Pau’s game: he’s pretty well-rounded for a big man.
