Jack-Cooley-proposalNotre Dame forward Jack Cooley took what was sure to be a memorable night on Wednesday and brought it to another level. During his team’s senior banquet, Cooley concluded his speech by calling his girlfriend Jackie Oberlander to the stage. His teammates, who knew what was coming, had their cell phone cameras rolling.

We all know what he did next. Cooley dropped down on one knee and proposed to Oberlander. She said yes. Junior guard Eric Atkins posted a quick clip of the proposal on Twitter.

Cooley, who was one of four seniors saying goodbye to the Irish, said Oberlander had previously told him that she wanted the engagement to be public and recorded.

“She told me that she wanted it public and recorded,” Cooley told The South Bend Tribune on Wednesday night. “She wanted me to do it around Senior Night (the March 5 game against St. John’s) but I had to focus on the game. I was running out of opportunities to do it in front of crowds like this so I just thought I would do it now.”

He also admitted that he didn’t purchase the engagement ring until last Thursday, but it appears everything went off pretty smoothly. It wasn’t quite as memorable as the most recent proposal we shared with you here on LBS, but anything beats ending up like this guy.

Packers-fan-proposalA man from Milwaukee named named Tim Schlosser recently planned a very romantic and memorable proposal for his now-fiancee Abigail Kobriger. However, Schlosser’s plan was not executed exactly the way he had envisioned it. Thank goodness for that, because he could have never imagined it going as well as it did.

The couple was strolling down the beach while on their Caribbean vacation when Tim was just about ready to make his move. The only thing he needed was a person that he could ask to take a picture of the couple, as he planned to get down on one knee and ask Abigail to marry him as soon as he could find a kind stranger to play the role of photographer. The next thing he knew, Schlosser spotted Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy from about 100 yards away.

“I know that guy!” Schlosser told TMJ 4 he was thinking when he spotted McCarthy. “I could just tell from the build, from about a 100 yards away and it’s Mike McCarthy.”

Schlosser says he and his girlfriend were both star struck and asked McCarthy to take a couple photos with them. He then asked the coach if he would mind taking a picture of the couple, which Kobriger found to be very bold considering he’s an NFL coach and a celebrity in their home state. That’s when Schlosser made his move.

“Coach hang on, I’ve got one thing to do,” Schlosser recalled asking McCarthy. “I pull out the ring and get down on one knee.”

Schlosser said McCarthy thought the moment was “very cool” and he ended up snapping 30 more photos of the couple to help them capture their special moment. We’ve seen NFL quarterbacks and punters help guys propose to their girlfriends before, but a coincidence like the one Schlosser and Kobriger came across seems too good to be true. Talk about being in the right place at the right time.

Orlando Magic fan proposalA fan proposed to his girlfriend at Monday’s Orlando Magic-Miami Heat game by using a half-court shot attempt to set her up for the surprise.

The young woman, Elena, prepared to take a half-court shot with $1,000 on the line. As she was setting up to attempt her shot — which went about halfway to the basket — her boyfriend was behind her getting ready to propose. The in-game host told Elena to turn around after her miss, and that’s when she saw her boyfriend down on one knee with a ring in a box extended.

Elena began crying in disbelief, said yes, and the two hugged and kissed.

This is just one of many sports-related marriage proposals we’ve shared here on the site, and they never get old. Check them all out here.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was kind enough to join Kiss 95.1 in Charlotte on Wednesday morning to help one of our country’s servicemen take the next step in his life.

A caller named Brian, who serves in the US Air Force and is currently stationed in New Mexico, proposed to his girlfriend over the phone. Typically the over-the-phone proposal is frowned upon, but when you’re serving in the military and get an NFL quarterback to help you pop the question it’s completely acceptable. Newton joined Brian on the line while hosts Drex and Maney got his girlfriend Kim on the phone.

Kim was told that Newton was on the line, which seemed to completely overwhelm her as she’s obviously a huge fan. The Panthers quarterback then informed her that Brian has something he would like to ask her, and the conversation went something like this.

“From the moment I met you, I knew that I loved you, and I knew that I wanted to love you for the rest of my life,” Brian told Kim. “I know when you say something over and over again, it can lose meaning, but every time I say I love you, I mean it, and I want you to be my wife. I want you to marry me.”

Kim eventually said “yes,” but her immediate response after Brian’s proposal was priceless.

“I can’t believe Cam Newton is on the phone,” she said.

Talk about having a lot to take in at once. I recommend listening to the entire audio clip, which can be heard here. This is not the first time an NFL player has helped a fan propose to his girlfriend, but it just may be the most entertaining reaction we have seen.

Landry-Fields-Elaine-Alden-proposal

Landry Fields has one of the better-looking girlfriends in all of professional sports, so it makes perfect sense that he has decided to ask Elaine Alden to be his wife. We first caught wind that the Toronto Raptors forward and stunning model were dating last summer, and it appears that Fields popped the question earlier this week.

As you can see from the photo above that Alden shared on Instagram, Fields got creative. He put together a four-photo slideshow with him holding up signs that spelled out “Will you marry me?” Obviously, Alden said yes.

Definitely one of the more unique ideas we have seen. We’re not going to say it beats either of these proposals, but it certainly kicks the crap out of Chad Ochocinco’s infamous video game debacle.

PS: Decent-sized rock.

Ravens-fan-Super-Bowl-proposalSunday night was a special night for Baltimore Ravens fans, many of who filled the streets of Baltimore to celebrate their team’s Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers. As if winning a championship isn’t thrilling enough, one fan was captured on camera making the celebration an even more memorable experience.

As you can see at the 38-second mark of the video above that was posted on Reddit, a fan was recording some of the festivities when he came across a man who was down on one knee proposing to his girlfriend. Judging by her reaction, it’s safe to say the answer was yes.

My question is this: was this dude proposing after the game win or lose? I’m guessing he had some sort of alternate proposal plan in place. If his girlfriend is a big Ravens fan and he asked her to marry him after a Super Bowl loss, there’s a good chance he would have ended up like this guy.

Anna-Prins-proposalThe Iowa State women’s basketball team came away with a comfortable 86-47 win over Alabama State on Sunday, but center Anna Prins was left celebrating more than just a blowout victory. After the game, Iowa State head coach Bill Fennelly led a young man named Ryan De Hamer out onto the court. Considering De Hamer is Prins’ boyfriend, she probably had a hunch about what was going to happen next.

With a microphone in-hand, De Hamer got down on one knee at center court and proposed to the 6-foot-7 senior. She said yes.

“I was crying,” Prins told the Ames Gazette. “I couldn’t have asked for a better place, just with all the people that were involved: Coach (Bill Fennelly), my team, the fans in Hilton, my family was there. Pretty special.”
