In the first of two matchups in two days between the hockey teams from the United States and Canada the ladies from north of the border came away with a 3-2 victory in the gold medal game on Thursday.
The U.S. held a 2-0 lead with 3:26 remaining in regulation only to see Canada force overtime with a goal by Marie-Philip Poulin with just 55 seconds left on the clock. Poulin would light the lamp once more in the extra period to complete the comeback, sinking the hearts of Team USA and their fans.
Around Canada the reaction was, obviously, at the other end of the spectrum. Among those keeping tabs on the game were the Toronto city council and Mayor Rob Ford, who was particularly excited.
In related news, hockey is big in Canada.
