Ryan Tannehill’s wife Lauren left behind a rifle in rental car

Ryan Tannehill wife Lauren

Someone in the Tannehill family must be into hunting or gun collecting, and we doubt it is Lauren.

NBC Miami reported on Wednesday that Lauren Tannehill, the wife of Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill, left an AR-15 rifle behind in a rental car that she returned to the airport two weeks ago.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office says Tannehill rented a 2013 Nissan from a company at the Fort Lauderdale Airport on Jan. 4. She supposedly left in the car but returned a few hours later to swap it for a different car. Another person ended up in the original car later that night and noticed that the gun had been left behind. The person was told to drop the rifle off at a police station, which is how the dots were connected back to Mrs. Tannehill.

The gun owner was notified about picking up their property. The Dolphins said Ryan Tannehill told them the matter was “personal” and they said they respected that.

The rifle is supposedly popular among collectors, range enthusiasts and hunters, especially boar hunters.

I’m not a gun carrier or collector and being in the presence of one makes me nervous. Not to go all political on you, but I advocate stricter gun control measures. However, I will say that the thought of the leggy Lauren holding a rifle at her side is pretty sexy.

Mike Pouncey: Ryan Tannehill is NFL’s best rookie QB, will be like Tom Brady

You could easily make the argument that Ryan Tannehill has exceeded expectations as the starting quarterback of the Miami Dolphins this season. His TD-to-interception ratio of 4-to-6 is underwhelming, but Tannehill’s quarterback rating of 75.8 is not all that bad for a rookie leading an offense. Most importantly, he has played well enough to lead the Dolphins to a 4-3 record.

But we don’t need to get carried away in praising the former Texas A&M quarterback. His teammate, Dolphins center Mike Pouncey, already did that for us last week.

“I think he’s the best rookie quarterback in the NFL right now,” Pouncey said according to Chris Tomasson of FOXSports.com. “Without his success that he’s having right now, we wouldn’t be the 3-3 Dolphins that we are.”

When asked specifically if he thought Tannehill was better than Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, Pouncey confidently said that he was. Now that the Dolphins have improved to 4-3, he must think Tannehill is ready for the Hall of Fame — especially since the center also compared his quarterback to Tom Brady.

“I think he’s better than RG3,” Pouncey said. “Their games are different. RG3 can throw, but he can also run. Tannehill’s a smart quarterback. I think he’s going to be one of those elite guys like Tom Brady when it comes said and done. Just his composure. His leadership in the huddle right now is just phenomenal. … I do see Tom, and the way he coordinates and runs his offense is the same as Tannehill does.”

Confidence in your quarterback is one thing. Having delusional thoughts is another. Luck has roughly the same passer rating as Tannehill, so I can see where that argument may come from. RG3 has a whopping 97.3 rating and has scored 14 total touchdowns, so he appears to be leading the way for rookie quarterbacks.

As for whether or not he’ll be the next Brady, do we really even need to go there? Pouncey should probably wait and see if Tannehill can lead the Dolphins to the playoffs before comparing him to three-time Super Bowl champions.

H/T Pro Football Talk

Ryan Tannehill doesn’t know the NFL divisions or understand why Miami is in the AFC East

As a rookie in the NFL, Ryan Tannehill still has a ton to learn. Between memorizing the plays, adjusting to lifestyle changes and dealing with an incredibly steeper level of competition, the transition from college to the pros is always a challenge for any rookie quarterback. However, most rookies likely already know what division every team is in. Understanding the geography of the NFL isn’t exactly essential, but it seems like something Tannehill struggles with.

“I wasn’t a huge pro fan growing up; I wasn’t loyal to any one team, so I don’t really know the divisions, and even really conferences,” Tannehill during the fourth episode of HBO’s Hard Knocks. “I know most of the conferences but some of those, I really have no clue. And they don’t make sense. You have the AFC East, and we’re freaking in the bottom of the map, and the directions don’t make any sense where the teams actually are.”

It’s true that a few things got out of whack when the NFL expanded from three divisions in each conference to four, but Miami being in the AFC East makes perfect sense. Could they be in the AFC South? Technically yes, but Florida is just as much east as it is south.

Even backup quarterback Matt Moore was surprised by Tannehill’s lack of knowledge with the layout of the NFL. Moore proceeded to give the rookie a pop quiz on the divisions and he got the entire AFC East correct but listed the Giants in the NFC North. He also thought Kansas City was an NFC team. Fortunately for Dolphins fans, memorizing divisions has nothing to do with on-field performance.

Remind me again what it is that Tannehill’s hot wife sees in him?

The Miami Dolphins went ahead and reached for quarterback Ryan Tannehill with the eighth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. About the only redeeming factor for the pick is that Tannehill has an attractive wife.

Lauren Tannehill attended the draft with her husband and even seemed to tip the pick via her Twitter account:

Lauren became well known among college football fans last year when ESPN showed her on TV during the Texas-Texas A&M game. Ryan was amused by all the attention she received.

“No, I think it’s funny. I think it’s great whenever people tweet her or say anything about it. It’s pretty funny,” Tannehill said. “She went into a restaurant a couple of days later and the waiter said, ‘I saw you on TV. You’re Ryan’s girlfriend.’ I thought the whole thing was great.”

According to Player Wives, the two met at Texas A&M in 2009, became engaged last May, and wed in January. Lauren graduated from Texas A&M in 2010 with a major in Communications and minor in Psychology. She’s also a model.
