Ronda Rousey beat Sara McMann at UFC 170 on Saturday night in Las Vegas. Rousey winning was not at all a surprise, but there was one shocker with the outcome: she did not win via armbar for the first time in her pro fighting career.
Instead, Rousey caught McMann with a devastating knee to the midsection in the first round that caused McMann to go down. Rousey jumped in for a few punches to finish off McMann, and referee Herb Dean stepped in to call the fight.
Though McMann was disappointed with the stoppage, she said after the fight that she understood Dean’s decision to step in and call it.
