Woodlawn and Plaquemine High School Teams Get into Major Brawl (Video)

Woodlawn High School and Plaquemine High School played each other Wednesday in a seven-on-seven scrimmage. Things were heated between the squads from the moment the game began. 20 minutes in, we got this amazing fight captured on tape by WAFB:

We’ve seen women’s soccer fights, two jockeys fight, and a high school player attack a ref here at LBS, but this marks our first high school football fight. By the way, that’s easily the best football brawl since Miami and FIU went at it in 2006.

High School Basketball Player Attacks, Bodyslams Ref (Video)

You think the notoriously insane Ron Artest gets heated up when an NBA ref makes a call against him? Ron has nothing on the Desoto County, Fla. high school player who decided to attack a referee after being assessed a technical and ejected from the game. We’ve seen things like inadvertent head butts and even times when a player gets carried away and shoves a ref or umpire, but seeing a player deliberately attack a zebra is pretty rare. Check out this video of a high school basketball player attacking a ref, courtesy of The Big Lead:

That kid obviously has some serious mental problems, and he’s going to have some serious legal problems if he’s 18 or older.  That’s blatant assault and battery, no matter how you cut it.  Poor sportsmanship taken to a new level.

Jockeys Calvin Borel and Javier Castellano Fight at Breeders’ Cup (Video)

When jockeys fight, we here at LBS laugh.  We laugh because it never happens.  We laugh because, frankly, it’s hilarious.  With all due respect — and I’m saying with all due respect — seeing two jockeys go at it kind of gives us of what a disagreement between two of Santa’s little helpers might look like.  After all, it is getting close to Christmas.

At the Breeders’ Cup at Churchill Downs on Friday, Calvin Borel was apparently angry at fellow jockey Javier Castellano for cutting into his path during a race.  Castellano was disqualified for the act, but Borel didn’t seem satisfied with the penalty.  The two decided to handle the situation like men on pit road after the race.  That’s what they call it, right?  Here’s the Calvin Borel and Javier Castellano Breeders’ Cup fight video:

In case you were wondering, Borel checks in at 5’5″ and Castellano stands 5’1″.  Both jockeys weigh a whopping 110 pounds.  Enjoy it while you can, folks.  Play it over and over as many times as you need to in order to get your fix, because you could never see something like it again.

George Parros Flicks Barret Jackman Like a 5-Year-Old (Video)

Now this is how you try to get a fight started…in the 3rd grade.  We’ve featured our fair share of sports fights here at LBS but I don’t think we’ve ever brought you a video of a grown man flicking another grown man like a small child.  Well, there’s a first time for everything.  Check out this video of George Parros flicking Barret Jackman:

Parros is lucky his mother — I mean the referee — didn’t see him doing that.

Nationals and Marlins Brawl After Nyjer Morgan Charges Mound, Throws Punch

Nationals center fielder Nyjer Morgan was already facing a seven game suspension for throwing a ball into the stands at a fan, but with his latest shenanigans, MLB might as well send him home the rest of the season.

In the last week alone, Morgan has made headlines for elbowing Cardinals catcher Bryan Anderson, running into Marlins catcher Brett Hayes (dislocating Hayes’ shoulder), and the latest antic was being ejected from Wednesday night’s game after charging the mound. Marlins pitcher Chris Volstad threw a pitch behind Morgan and Nyjer decided to charge. The result is this Nationals and Marlins fight video which is one of the best sports fights we’ve had in a while. Check it out:

Aside from separating Hayes’ shoulder on Tuesday, the Marlins were also pissed because Morgan displayed poor baseball etiquette stealing second and third in the 4th inning with his team down 14-3. I defended Nyjer after he threw this legendary fit earlier in the season, but now it’s becoming clear he’s a hot head who seeks controversy. There’s no defense for his recent behavior. Hopefully the commissioner’s office, and especially the players’ union, will see it the same way.

Two Ejected in Women’s Soccer Fight

What’s with women’s college soccer becoming so violent?  Last year we saw the hair-tugging fiasco between BYU and New Mexico, and now we’ve got two players being ejected from an Oklahoma State-Oregon soccer game for getting into a fight.  Should athletic directors being looking into getting women’s football teams to help release some of this aggression?  Quite possibly.  Check out the Oregon vs. Oklahoma state women’s soccer (cat) fight video:

At least they stayed away from the hair-pulling this time from what we can see.  Good to see they’re cleaning it up a little.

Indians and Red Sox Clear Benches

The Boston Red Sox are a pretty frustrated bunch and understandably so.  As if they haven’t already been bitten hard enough by the injury bug this season, they lost Kevin Youkilis on Monday night to a hand injury.  Perhaps it was some of that frustration that prompted the fight that took place between the Red Sox and Indians on Tuesday night when the benches cleared.

Josh Beckett has a tendency to work inside, but the Indians seemed to think it was hardly a coincidence when he hit Shin-Soo Choo on the knee after he’d been hammering the Sox in the series.  That, along with a curveball that slipped out of Beckett’s and soared over the head of Shelley Duncan, inspired Cleveland’s pitchers to start throwing behind the Red Sox hitters, which they did first with David Ortiz and then Adrian Beltre.  The pitch behind Beltre resulted in the benches being cleared.  Check out the Red Sox and Indians team fight video:
