Tim Tebow, Danny Wuerffel, Steve Spurrier Get Bronze Statues at Florida

Florida’s three Heisman Trophy winners were memorialized with bronze statues that were unveiled Saturday during the Gators’ spring game at The Swamp. The program’s three winners, Tim Tebow (2007), Danny Wuerffel (1996), and Steve Spurrier (1966) were all honored with life-sized statues that are on display outside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville. Both Spurrier and Wuerffel’s statues show them throwing, while the statue of quarterback Tim Tebow shows him tucking his shoulder and running. He wasn’t bothered by the difference, saying they had to change it up for him.

Both Wuerffel and Tebow were in attendance for the ceremony which took place at halftime of the spring game, while Spurrier taped a message that was played for the fans.

Gator Zone has more details on the day as well as a video of the ceremony, and Gator Sports has a picture gallery. Here are a few pictures in the meantime.

Scottie Pippen’s Statue Unveiled

Former Bulls forward Scottie Pippen had a sculpture made in his likeness and the bust was unveiled at halftime of the Bulls-Celtics game Thursday night. The former seven-time All-Star and six-time NBA champ was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame last year, so having the statue made is just another honor in his post-career. The statue will be on permanent display in the United Center near Gate 7. Here are more pictures of Scottie Pippen’s bust from the Chicago Tribune.

Michael Jackson Statue Unveiled Outside Fulham’s Craven Cottage Stadium

If you’re wondering what singer/dancer/entertainer/child molester Michael Jackson has to do with Fulham Football Club soccer, you’re not alone. We’re wondering the same thing. Anyway, a statue of the King of Pop was unveiled outside of Fulham’s Craven Cottage Stadium Sunday prior to the team’s match against Blackpool:

The story behind the statue is that Fulham owner Al Fayed was friendly with Jackson and commissioned the statue to be made for placement inside Harrods, a department store owned by Fayed. But Fayed sold the store and needed to make alternate plans for the statue, so he decided to place it outside his soccer stadium. As for the lack of ties between Jackson and soccer, Fayed said “Football fans love it. If some stupid fans don’t understand and appreciate such a gift, they can go to hell.” Amen brother.

I just hope this doesn’t launch a disturbing trend of celeb fans getting recognition outside arenas. I’m not sure I’d be able to handle a bronzed Bieber in front of Staples Center. Anyway, here are more Michael Jackson statue pictures to peruse.

Nick Saban Statue Pictures Emerge

What they call a bronze tribute to Alabama coach Nick Saban I call a float for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Seriously, how many runners does it take to hold this thing down as they maneuver along 34th street?

This statue caused a bit of a stir because Saban is in the prime of his coaching career at Bama and already getting memorialized outside Bryant-Denny Stadium. The rumor is that the statue is set to be unveiled at the annual A-Day spring game on April 17th, but if I were them I’d postpone the unveiling until I’ve built a new one that looks less like a milk chocolate treat and more like Coach Saban. What did they commission a third grader to make this? More pics courtesy of The Juice Is Good:
