San Francisco Giants Tattoos on the Rise After World Series Run

In addition to Tim Lincecum hoping the city was smoking and my facebook news feed being littered with Giants-related updates, there was another consequence of the Giants running through the playoffs and winning the World Series. Many San Francisco fans have been getting the team’s logo tattooed on their body.

San Francisco Examiner says on Monday alone, one given tattoo shop had five people come in to request the ink job and about 20 did in all throughout the postseason. Another shop says there were requests coming in throughout the season but there was a rush during the playoffs too.

You figure that would be something the players would do, but with them changing teams constantly it’s really only the fans who can do it. Players come and go, but fans can love their team for life.

Chris Birdman Andersen Went a Bit Overboard on the Neck Tattoo (Pictures)

It feels like we’ve been down this road so many times before so I really don’t even know why I’m bothering, but this must be addressed. Nuggets icon Chris Birdman Andersen is already well known for his wild hairstyles and crazy tattoos, but now he’s just taken things to a whole new level. Last year we saw the outline for a neck tattoo reading “Free Bird,” and apparently he spent the off-season filling it in. I don’t know what the proper term is for a filled in neck tattoo — neck sleeve, turtleneck — whatever it is, Andersen has it. He also added on to all his other tats and it doesn’t look like there’s an ink-free inch on his exposed skin.

Fans Supporting Teams with Teeth Tattoos

Whether it’s getting your whole body tattooed with autographs from your favorite team or getting an ass tattoo for playoff tickets, fans do crazy things when it comes to their ink. It’s not even fans, either. We’ve seen athletes get tattoos on their necks, on their heads, and their butt. What I didn’t realize is that the latest fad is getting teeth tattoos. Chad Margulius of IntheOT.com has an uncle who is a dentist. One of his patients has this Canucks logo placed on one of his porcelain puppies:

I suppose the good news is, as Chad pointed out, compared to permanent ink at least you can just pull out your tooth when you get sick of it.

Dominique Jones Better Hope He Sticks in the NBA

Dominique Jones was drafted by the Grizzlies and traded to the Mavericks this year after spending three seasons at South Florida. The 6’4″ guard was one of the best scorers in college basketball you never heard of. He threw in 46 against Providence, 37 on Pitt, and he averaged just over 21ppg this past season. His scoring ability would lead one to believe Jones will have a future in the NBA but you never know who will make it and who won’t.

That’s probably why it was somewhat ballsy of Jones to get a tattoo of the NBA logo on his leg as passed along by Jimmy Traina’s Hot Clicks and The Sporting Rave. Here is a picture of Dominique Jones’ NBA logo tattoo:

Hey, good news is he has the other leg available for the NBDL logo in case he gets cut!

K-Mart Gets Rid of Ridiculous Tattoo

These pictures of Kenyon Martin’s lips tattoo being covered up, courtesy of Sports by Brooks, seem to indicate he has suffered a serious break-up with his former girlfriend — a rapper named Trina.  Brooks’ source sent him the photos that he had taken in a Miami night club called Lux Nightclub and said K-Mart was with a woman that night that was not Trina.  Here’s what Martin had to say about the tattoo when he got it back in 2008:

It’s just something that I wanted to get a while ago, but I’m not just gonna get it for anyone .. (someone) who is special to me, who means something to me.“

If breaking up with this woman means getting rid of arguably the most ridiculous tattoo a professional athlete has ever gotten, then I’d say it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to K-Mart.  That thing was tough to even look at.  Who wants to see a grown man playing basketball on national television with a red pair of lips tattooed on his neck?  Certainly not me.  Maybe I’ll be able to watch a few more Nuggets games now.  Probably not.

LT’s New Jets and Old Chargers Tattoos

It’s only June and we’ve already noted that LaDainian Tomlinson hasn’t impressed in a Jets uniform after signing there this offseason. Due to a combination of age and carries, LT’s body has already been breaking down and he’s just not the same. That’s why it probably wasn’t such a good idea to fully commit himself to his new team by getting permanent ink on his body. We mentioned how LT got a new Jets tattoo earlier this month and luckily for us, a Sal Paolantonio report on ESPN showed us those tats. Here are pictures of LT’s Jets tattoo and his old Chargers tattoo:

LT probably figures he has a few more years left in his career and doesn’t see what we do. It’s a shame, because if I had to make a guess, LT’s right calf will read 2010-2011 on it and that just won’t look very good.

Shaq Got Some Fresh New Tattoos

Shaq missed the last six weeks of the regular season after having surgery on his injured thumb. While Shaq was out we heard how he was working hard to get into shape and that he lost 20 pounds. That seems accurate because Shaq has looked pretty good since rejoining the Cavaliers for their playoff series against the Bulls. I also noticed that something else had changed with Shaq’s appearance: he seemed to have plenty more work done on his arms and chest. I don’t know how many of Shaq’s tattoos were there at the beginning of the season, but based on some of these pictures it looks like Shaq got plenty more ink, taking a page from teammates LeBron James and Mo Williams:

As you can tell, it looks like he got a second Superman tattoo, the latest on his right arm to go along with the original “Man of Steel” S on the left arm. You can also see Shaq’s fraternity tattoo on the backside of his left arm. It’s for his fraternity, Omega Psi Phi. Here’s how Shaq’s arms used to look, courtesy of Vanishing Tattoo:

As you can see, Shaq sure has added on over the years, most recently during his stay in Cleveland.
