The Boston Bruins are off to a roaring start to the lockout-shortened season, and their hot streak continued with a shootout victory over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night. You know things are going particularly well when a flying hot dog wipes out one of your shootout goals and you still find a way to win.

Tyler Seguin was Boston’s first shooter when the shootout began, and an object that appeared to be either a hot dog or a sausage came sliding across the ice as he was skating in on Devils goalie Johan Hedberg. As Puck Daddy pointed out, the NHL has a rule that resulted in Seguin having to take the shot again after he scored. NHL rule 24.4:

If, while the penalty shot is being taken, a spectator throws any object onto the ice or, in the judgment of the Referee, interferes with the player taking the shot or the goalkeeper defending the shot, he shall permit the shot be taken again.

While the replay appeared to show that the food item slid behind Hedberg and was actually more in Seguin’s line of sight, the officials ruled that Seguin had to retake the shot. He scored again, and the Bruins eventually went on to win.

At least it wasn’t a dead animal, right? Believe it or not, that has happened once or twice during NHL games.

Tyler Seguin and Aly Raisman are going to end up dating if the Boston media has its way. The 20-year-old Bruins center and 18-year-old Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast traded tweets over the past few weeks, and inquiring minds would like to know if they have a future.

Matters started with Raisman’s Olympic profile, which lists Seguin as her favorite Bruins player. That may have been the green light Seguin needed to initiate contact with Raisman over Twitter:

Alright, so things started off warmly between the two. But the flirtation continued at the urging of a few reporters.

When Raisman returned from London, a reporter asked if she planned to meet Seguin.

“Depends if he wants to meet me,” the gymnast reportedly replied.

The media push continued when a BostonBruins.com TV reporter asked Seguin about Raisman during the center’s appearance at a Lowell Spinners game:

Boston athletes seem to be doing quite well for themselves off the field. First it was Rob Gronkowski hanging out with Bibi Jones, then it was Wes Welker getting engaged to former Hooters girl Anna Burns, and now it’s Bruins young center Tyler Seguin seemingly getting close with Playboy’s Miss November 2011 Ciara Price.

Price is a 21-year-old from Portland, Maine, who seems to now live on the West Coast. She’s spent the past several weeks tweeting back and forth with the 20-year-old former No. 2 overall pick, and based on her Twitter feed, she spent Easter weekend in Boston.

Price tweeted to ask who was at the Bruins game last Saturday — Boston’s season finale — where Seguin scored two goals. Barstool Sports says (or is figuring) that Price attended the game and hung out with Seguin afterward. Seguin seemed to suggest he spent Easter Sunday without any women around, but I’m sure he had plenty of company during the day.

They could deny all they want that anything was going on, but if past examples of constant Twitter flirting between a guy and girl have taught us anything, it’s that there almost always is something going on.

Don’t worry you two, there is nothing to hide.

Those of you who are long-time LBS readers may recall a feature we used to run called Siren Games. Today, we’ve decided to bring that feature back. For our newer readers, a Siren Game is a performance a player has that alerts you that he is the real deal, thus affirming the existence of the hype surrounding that player. If you tuned in to last night’s Eastern Conference Finals game between the Bruins and Lightning, you should have no problem understanding the concept of a Siren Game.

Tyler Seguin was selected by the Bruins with the second overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft — a selection they received from Toronto as part of the Phil Kessel trade.  After trading Kessel, Boston was said to lack a true scorer.  Peter Chiarelli and the Bruins font office hoped Seguin would be the answer to their troubles.

To make a long story short, the Lightning and Bruins combined for as many goals (11) in Game 2 as Seguin had all season.  As the season progressed Claude Julien cut back the rookie’s minutes, noting that he still needed to develop and improve defensively.  As a result, Seguin was left off the postseason roster.
