Depending on your age or how many NASCAR races you have attended, you may not be familiar with the concept of the bathroom trough. For those who have not experienced it, consider yourselves lucky. Simply put, a trough is one big urinal with no dividers in between. There’s no specific limit to how many people can use it or once, it’s basically just a matter of where you’re comfortable squeezing in. Apparently this is something that the people of Winnipeg enjoy.
As CBC Manitoba pointed out, Winnipeg Jets fans have started an online petition — which has been signed by over 200 people — that is urging the team to bring back troughs in the men’s room at the MTS Centre the way it was with the old Jets.
“Oh, it’s killer, it’s killer, especially when intermission comes,” one Jets fan said of the long bathroom lines during stoppages of play. “It’s very long waiting.”
“It’s a little more primative, but if you got to go, you got to go, right?” another fan said.
Other fans — the ones that will inevitably win the argument because the Jets aren’t going to be ripping out their urinals anytime soon — oppose the idea. Some say the troughs lead to “stage fright” while others don’t want to give potential “perverts” an easy opportunity to look at their business.
Maybe I just lack bathroom confidence, but having experienced the trough before I have no use for it at a sporting event. I don’t care how many beers I’ve had, I’ll either hold it or find somewhere else to go. Standing literally shoulder-to-shoulder with other grown men while I’m trying to relieve myself isn’t really my thing.
H/T to Puck Daddy for passing the story along.Google+
