Wladimir Klitschko: David Haye’s Brutal Execution Comment Crosses the Line

After years of negotiations, plans, and fighters backing out, David Haye and Wladimir Klitschko finally agreed to meet and they’ll square off on Saturday in Hamburg, Germany. Haye really caught Wladimir’s attention in 2009 when he wore the shirt pictured above to a press conference for their potential fight, one that shows him decapitating both Klitschkos in the ring (never underestimate the power of trash talk). Whether or not Wlad is playing along in the promotional game to hype up the fight I don’t know, but he says he’s offended by Haye’s pre-fight behavior and it seems to be legitimate.

During a press conference to promote their fight Monday, David Haye said “This is going to be the most brutal execution of a boxer that you’ve seen for many, many years. I’m going to go out there and absolutely destroy him, really quickly.”

The “brutal execution” comment apparently didn’t sit well with Wladimir who said it crossed the line.

James Toney Calls Out David ‘Gaye’ and Wladimir ‘Bitschko’ for Ducking him

James Toney is a likely Hall of Fame boxer who is one of the best trash talkers around. He recently signed on to fight Ken Shamrock in an MMA bout on October 1st. In an interview with East Side Boxing, Toney admitted that he’s turned to MMA because no good boxers will face him. Naturally, Toney made his admission while getting in a jab at David Haye and Wladimir Klitschko who are fighting on July 2nd.

“These guys are clowns!” Toney told East Side Boxing. “You’ve got David “Gaye” and Wladimir “Bitschko,” who are gonna earn millions all because Gaye can talk trash. They call him a great trash-talker, but I’m THE BEST trash-talker on the planet! He [Haye] did some shit with a T-shirt and he talked his way into a million dollar fight! That’s nothing- I called Klitschko’s mom a b**ch and his sister too, and they don’t wanna fight me. How come? I did everything I could to get those two sisters into the ring.”

While trash talking is always an effective way of generating buzz and getting an opponent’s attention, there is one key component to getting big fights: you have to be a competitive fighter. Toney is 42 and no longer good enough to compete with the elite heavyweights in the world. On top of that, it’s difficult to trust a fighter who got busted for using steroids in the past.

Toney may not be good enough to compete with the best fighters anymore, but he can still bring top level trash talk. Because of his entertainment value, we’ll be watching his fight with Shamrock.

Vitali Klitschko Told Wladimir to Quit Boxing After Losses to Sanders, Brewster

Wladimir Klitschko is 55-3 and the IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champion of the world. He’s preparing to fight David Haye in July for Haye’s WBA heavyweight champion belt. If Wladimir wins, he will have earned his fourth title belt and he’ll combine with brother Vitali to hold all the major heavyweight titles. But if you hear the way Wlad tells it, their combined success is extremely surprising.

Wladimir lost two of four fights in 2003 and 2004 getting beat pretty badly. He was defeated in the second round by Corrie Sanders in March of ’03, getting knocked down twice in the first and two more times in the second. Though Wlad struggled immensely with Sanders’ powerful left hand, he rebounded to win his next two fights. Then in April of ’04, Wladimir lost to Lamon Brewster by TKO in the fifth. Wladimir says his brother advised him to quit boxing after seeing him lose by TKO twice in 13 months.

“I was destroyed and at the bottom of the sport – destroyed by fans, media, everyone and I ended up on the floor,” Wladimir told the News of the World.

“Even my brother Vitali said, ‘Look at your face, where you are right now, I think it’s time to say goodbye to the sport’.

Hayden Panettiere and Wladimir Klitschko Are Breaking Up

After a two year relationship, Hayden Panettiere and Wladimir Klitschko have decided to call things quits according to People Magazine. Hayden, whose last name amazingly is harder to spell than Wladimir’s, told the mag “Even though we’ve decided splitting up is best for both of us, we have an amazing amount of love and respect for each other and remain very close friends.” Klitschko meanwhile cited their long distance as an obstacle too difficult to overcome in their relationship.

We always found it extremely difficult to believe the two were dating since the day we first posted a picture of them together in January, 2010. Let’s put aside Hayden’s 5’2″ status and Wladimir’s gigantic 6’5″ frame — hey, we’ve seen Chris Bosh and his wife together, it’s pretty similar — but this was just one of the oddest couples possible.

First off, how did they even meet? I could see Hayden and some other Hollywood actor being together, or maybe even an athlete. But a Ukrainian boxer who many sports fans in America don’t even know? How did that end up happening? It’s so strange that I think it only makes sense that they eventually broke up.

The one downside I’ll admit is that Wlad’s fights now will be slightly less exciting unless he scores a rebound girl as nice as Shane Mosley’s. I’ll also end this post by asking the question many of you have in mind: How weird did it look when the two of them decided to … go out for dinner. Their sheer height and size difference is astonishing!

David Haye to Finally Face Wladimir Klitschko with Vitali as Backup Plan

The waiting game of almost two years finally came to an end on Sunday: David Haye and Wladimir Klitschko agreed to fight this summer. Though this fight lacks the attention and publicity the elusive Pacquiao-Mayweather fight has received, it’s one fans have been waiting for since 2009.

Haye pulled out of his 2009 fight with Wladimir citing an injury concern. He later negotiated a fight with Vitali Klitschko, never signed, and instead beat Nikolai Valuev to win his belt. Since then, Haye has talked all sorts of nonsense saying the Klitschkos were avoiding him while Wlad responded calling him a chicken (read the whole timeline here). At long last, the game is over.

The fight is set to take place June 25th or July 2nd at a European location. But here’s the best part: there is injury insurance that guarantees Haye will fight one of the Klitschkos. If Wlad gets hurt and pulls out as he’s done frequently, Vitali will step in for the bout. Does it get much better than that as far as tag team partners go?

The Klitschkos are based out of the Ukraine while Haye is British, so it appears as if the mutual location for the fight will be Germany. All I know is that I’ll believe this fight is on when I see the bell ring, but I will add it will be quite cool to see the Klitschko brothers own all four major boxing belts by the end of the year.

Picture: Hayden Panettiere and Wladimir Klitschko Sitting in a Tree

Two names I never thought I’d mention together in the same sentence: Hayden Panettiere and Wladimir Klitschko. We’ve long been fans of Hayden since the day she became legal around 26 months ago (not that we’re counting). She always seemed to be a girl who dated the Hollywood type, not athletes. But as TMZ points out thanks to a photo from Pacific Coast News, Panetierre and Klitschko were spotted together in Miami.

Hayden Panettiere and Wladimir Klitschko

I don’t even know what to make of this photo. Are the two dating? Did they vacation together? Do they have the same agent? How in the world is the IBF, IBO, and WBF heavyweight champion who’s so little known by U.S. sports fans known by Hayden Panettiere? What is going on here?
