Angelique Kerber receives cool message from Dirk Nowitzki

Angelique Kerber

Angelique Kerber received a cool message from NBA star Dirk Nowitzki after ascending to the world No. 1 ranking in women’s tennis.

Here’s the note she got from Dirk via Twitter on Friday, which was written in German:

The message translates to: “Madness. Congratulations. Good luck in the final!”

Kerber is German just like Nowitzki and actually won a silver medal at the Olympics in Rio for Germany. Dirk also happens to be a huge tennis fan, so he probably has been watching most of the US Open matches.

Kerber achieved the ranking on Thursday night when Serena Williams lost to Karolina Pliskova in the semifinals of the US Open. Kerber then went out and beat Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets to reach the finals of the tournament.

Williams had held the No. 1 ranking since Feb. 2013, so Kerber taking over the top spot is a huge deal.
