Kevin Anderson sends classy tweet after epic match with Isner

Kevin Anderson John Isner

Kevin Anderson sent an awesome tweet after his epic match with John Isner at Wimbledon on Friday.

The two tennis players combined to play the second-longest match in grand slam history — a match that went five sets and lasted over six and a half hours. Anderson prevailed in the marathon semifinal, winning the fifth set 26-24.

Afterwards, Anderson sent a classy tweet about Isner, whom he called “an incredible sportsman and friend.”

It’s nice for Isner to be regarded that way by his opponent. After all, when you’ve gone through a 1-on-1 battle like that for more than a quarter of the day, you become tied together in history. The same thing happened with Isner and Nicolas Mahut, who played over 11 hours in their 2010 match at Wimbledon.

Beyond their historic semifinal, Isner and Anderson have other ties. The two played each other in college and have faced each other over ten times as pros.
